Welcome to Vivarium, a world between planes! No one is sure where this world exists nor in what era, but it has already ended up heavily populated by an array of creatures. Are you ready to “wake” in the world of Vivarium and explore its mysterious existence?

Monty is short in height but heavy-set, his body thick and stocky with a low, powerful frame that makes him look difficult to move once he’s planted his paws. His weight sits solidly through his shoulders and barrel chest, giving him a dense, grounded presence rather than softness. Short legs and broad joints reinforce the impression of brute endurance—he’s not built for speed or grace, but for holding his ground and weathering impact.
His coat is a deep charcoal-to-black, broken subtly by dark grey shading along his neck, flanks, and limbs, with lighter grey dusting at the throat and tail tip. His face is almost always set in a natural scowl, brow furrowed, eyes narrowed, mouth pulled into a hard line that makes him seem perpetually annoyed or suspicious. Even at rest, Monty looks unimpressed and guarded, as if the world has already tested his patience and found it lacking. His posture is closed and defensive, head held slightly low, shoulders forward, everything about him reads as unfriendly by default, whether he means it or not.
Even if the sky is falling, even if the waters rise, even if the world is ending

personality
Monty learned how to be wary far too young. Losing his family as a boy carved a permanent fault line through him, one that taught him, early on, that attachment is dangerous and loss is inevitable. Since then, he’s moved through the world with his guard already raised, meeting strangers with a sharp tongue and an unwelcoming stare. Sarcasm comes easily to him, not because he enjoys cruelty, but because it keeps others at a distance where they can’t hurt him. If he seems confrontational, it’s often just fear wearing armor.
That fear lives close to the surface, feeding a temper that flares fast when he feels cornered, judged, or uncertain. Monty doesn’t lash out for the sake of violence; he snaps because anger is easier than grief, easier than admitting how much he still carries. He’s always bracing for the moment something good is taken from him again, and his short fuse acts as a warning, don’t get close, don’t stay too long. When his anger burns out, it leaves him quiet and withdrawn, retreating back into the cold composure that helps him feel safe and in control.
Despite everything, Monty’s capacity for loyalty runs deep, almost painfully so. Anyone who earns his trust becomes something precious, something he instinctively shields with his whole body. He may grumble, snap, or push them away on bad days, but if they’re threatened, there’s no hesitation in him at all. Protecting others gives him purpose, a way to make sure the loss that shaped him doesn’t repeat itself.
