Baldur has Congenital Insensitivity to Pain — a very rare and extremely dangerous condition. Those with CIP cannot feel pain or extreme temperatures. Pain-sensing nerves are not properly connected in parts of brain that receive the pain messages.
While the sensation of pain will never hinder him, it is possible for Baldur to not notice when he is in dire need of medical attention, which can endanger his life.
APPEARANCE
Baldur’s appearance is a mixture of earthy-energy, wearing a palette that blends natural tones with a stormy contrast. His fur ranges from warm, autumnal shades of burnt-sienna, russet, and tawny cream, to cooler, smoky shades like charcoal and slate blue which add a conflicting flair. The darker areas are sharp and almost intense when compared to their counter colors, especially as they frame his brightly masked face.
Baldur’s eyes burn with an amber flame, and are ringed with aqua-blue around his pupils. His eyes can be read quite easily, if you have studied him long enough, as he’s not that well trained in remaining stoic.
All in all, Baldur is a mesh of bright heat and cool shades, as if born by a brewing storm and tempered by the embers of a forest fire.
Hidden beneath his coat are various scars in different areas, varying in shape and severity, a result of his condition.
PERSONALITY
Having grown up without a parent’s guardian to rely on, Baldur has grown to be incredibly independent, even stubbornly so. Should he need help, he would never ask and would simply struggle alone. Due to his soured relationship with nearly every individual he’s ever met, trust issues are in full swing for him. He assumes kindness is often a ruse to get favors in return, which can make him rude or aggressive if cornered by someone with good intentions.
Those that are truly good natured for the sheer sake of kindness may earn a different side of him. Baldur may be an adult now, but he has never had the time to process childhood trauma and master emotional intelligence. He may grow flustered, embarrassed, quiet, or snarky, as he doesn’t know the correct response and fight or flight may kick in.
Due to his disorder, as well as its lack of parental interference, Baldur can be impulsive and reckless in his actions. A competitive spirit mixed in can often endanger himself and others, if he isn’t careful.
