Tall and powerfully built, though worn by circumstance. Samo's coat consists of russet-brown with darker points. Cream accents his neck and haunches, along with a small pale star on his forehead. Notable are a few dark scars on his temple, above the eye; though small, they are distinct against the short fur of his head and noticeable up close.
In another life, Samo was a warrior of the Aedui. As a young man, he followed his king into battle with the ever-advancing legions. But their long-time foe, the Romans, bested them. Samo allowed himself to be captured rather than be slain. He later attempted to escape, but was caught and fought with his captors. For this he was marked with the
stigmata, but his master recognized his unruly slave's military prowess and decided he could still be of use elsewhere. And so Samo of the Aedui became Rufus the gladiator, fighting for what little honour remained to him in the arena. Little by little, what hope he had of escaping and returning home to Gaul began to depart him. He prayed to the gods—his gods, not the Roman ones, but received no answer.
Just as his spirit was nearly broken, however, they answered him.
Samo remembered facing down a
murmillo, armoured and armed to the teeth. The next he recalls, he awoke in a new body and in a new land. It is not Gaul, and he has been made into a beast, albeit still bearing the marks of his past life. But he is free—and he will cling to that freedom for as long as he can.
