Pharaoh
Leaders of Saxe blood. The burning sun, the dragon guarding their mountain of liquid fire, painted with the crown of blood as they sit the throne of bones. The mightiest of their generation, chosen by the one that came before; sometimes just one, sometimes a betrothed pair for line purity. They are the law, they do whatever they like, and they dare you to say something against that. They are the final decision makers, although some monarchs may refer more to their councils than others.

In the event a Saxe Pharaoh marries outside the bloodline. Still higher in status than everyone else, as the Pharaoh’s chosen, but won’t ever have the loudest voice. Will have to work past their every decision being doubted until they prove themselves; personally and/or professionally distrusted, potentially ignored, and constantly fighting for respect.

Flame
Crown Prince(ess)/the officially named heir of the Dominion. A dragon hatchling, next in line for the crown of blood. The inferno of the next generation, the fire that keeps the empire burning strong. Proven themselves the most capable of ruling in the next generation. May be a betrothed pair chosen together, may be a single descendant.

Spark
Spawn of the Pharaoh’s, or the Pharaoh and their Consort. Expected to grow up strong, smart, and constantly ready to prove they’re good enough to be the next Flame; the next Pharaoh. Will eventually be run through the Flame Ceremony to see if they’re suitable. Often have a keen eye upon them, judging, measuring.

Ember
Other Saxe family members. They keep the fire burning strong, but they weren’t intense enough themselves to harness the inferno. Considered “royalty”, as long as they share Saxe blood and name with the ruler. Once married into the family, Saxe partners also fall into this rank. Privileged. Can largely do whatever they want, as long as they don’t piss off those above them. Are emphasized only to impress the will of the Saxe bloodline further, as they always have.

Eye of Ra
Council members. Those respected enough to have the ear of the Pharaoh(s), who have proven themselves the most loyal and beneficial to the Dominion or their leaders. They don’t have the power between them to force a ruler from their throne, but the Eyes of Ra are meant to guide, to prioritize, to strategize. In extreme cases, they may need to be the judges of the Flame Ceremony and choose the next Pharaoh as their leader would have wished. Must be truly trusted to earn such a gold-gilded title.

Sphinx
Only the most fierce and accomplished warriors -and assassins- of the Dominion earn this rank. Trusted with guarding the royals, areas of importance (ex. a den of royals, children, or injured), and/or borders as a whole. May also be asked to scout, definitely travel with the Pharaoh wherever they go, and could even be asked to spy somewhere.

Ankh
Storytellers. They weave the tales that rope others into belief, swaying more hearts to their side and teeth to their cause. Fanatics make the best followers, after all, but instead of a god they worship… it’s the Saxe bloodline. Ankh are the keepers of knowledge in the Dominion, historians and scribes remembering all there is of Saxe accomplishments and teaching those stories to the youth, never to be forgotten.

Eye of Horus
Healers, gardeners, gatherers, midwives. One of the more important ranks; the ones who put the warriors back together again to fight another day, who help safely deliver new life into the Dominion, who gather, grow, and use the herbs needed to help their people, hurt their enemies, and throw some of the best parties around.

Ouroboros
The grunts, the basic rank you earn by passing the gauntlet. Generally appreciated, treated as well as they contribute, but nothing special. That being said, while the Saxe bloodline is thought of as close to godliness, they also believe in proving oneself. One must be worthy to even enter the ranks, yes, but you have to continue to prove it, and those most dedicated and hard-working are those treated like gold.

Scarab
The future bulk of the Dominion, the children of its members. Early shaping is critical for the perfect member; those born within the pack are thought of as “better” or even higher in station than those who came later in their lives. All adults are encouraged to interact and teach, so that the youth see firsthand what life expects of them, where bad decisions lead to.

Ashes
Children born specifically of a Saxe and either an Amulet or Dung Beetle. Looked down on, but also get the unique chance to prove they can be more through a special Trial. They have to work harder, they often have less willing mentors, but they can find their way beneath the warmth of the sun if they fight for it hard enough.

Amulet
Slaves that behave, or perhaps that are outright willing. Companions meant for little else than amusement, favors, or making mundane chores less boring. Not trusted, per say, but not under constant watch either. Expected to be seen only when summoned, heard only when spoken to, and do whatever it is they’re tasked with. If they don’t pull their weight, they die. Some are tasked with prostitution; trading services for all sorts of favors, resources, political arrangements, or other items of interest -- all of which usually go straight back to their master. Ex. If one was told to carry a litter for someone whose mate perhaps could not bear children, or forsake their own litter to nurse orphan Saxe’s, or go spend a week of nights with a lonely leader for an abundance of food, they would be expected to do so, but trinkets of that worth are usually treated like gems.
Under very rare cases, some exceptional Amulet’s are allowed to walk free and join the ranks as a Scarab, to start the climb up the ranks. In theory, it should be easy to move up into the ranks for such willing, obedient creatures, but those very traits and the desirability of their chores make it more difficult to be promoted.

Dung Beetle
The punished, the traitors, the disobedient. Angering the Pharaoh(s) may just land you here if you’re unlucky enough to avoid death. Often either penned together or kept under guard at all times, but never allowed near or past the border. Expected to be seen only when summoned, heard only when spoken to, and do whatever it is they’re tasked with. If they don’t pull their weight, they die.
Want to escape? Die, or find strength, prove you deserve more, impress the Pharaoh or your master. Must be promoted to Amulet through dedication and grueling work before they ever hope for anything else.
