Maybe, she’d laugh about it in a. Day or two. Right now, the rumble of crumbling right behind her feet only gave her the rush of energy to run, not laugh.
Her tongue lolled as she pushed her legs faster, ignoring the ache in her lungs, watching the white speckle of Ko-Ga’s feathers beside her.
Closing her eyes, she pretends she is chasing Nate. She imagines her siblings beside her, playing childhood tag. Conjuring a memory, she pretends she is running, not to escape but to live.
