RE: When Doves Cry - Goldblossom - 5/7/2026

Skill: Healer

Gold blossom wasn't sure whether what she was saying even mattered. But he seemed interested. That was good right? Keep him occupied and teach him too.

Goldie didn't want to say he'd die if he ate the wrong one. Not even sure if he knew what death was. It wouldn't do to corrupt no sir. So she said sick and hoped it stuck.

A soft little Oh left her mouth. Then she giggled when he spit it out.

Well I told you it wouldn't taste good. Some wolves eat it with meat. she giggled again. Though she hoped that mushrooms could have some help and healing benefits. They did not. They were good for a toxicologist and one thing about those si they tasted a lot like dirt. So they could easily be put into someones meat. Not that she would ever do that. But she made sure to always keep an eye out when someone else prepared her meal.

She sniffed at his little face and head.

This is a meadow mushroom. Lets find some water or a piece of meat to take that taste out of your mouth. Yea?.

She looked around. Nose working trying to find something. Was he old enough to eat meat?

With meat, she said. Some wolves eat it with meat. He wasn't sure if he necessarily believed her as the remaining crumbs of dirt and bits of chewed-up mushroom dribbled out of his open mouth, but perhaps one day he would risk it again at her advice.

Nen'tah did, however, like the sound of a snack to wash out the residual earthy flavor. He'd heard a squirrel chittering close by earlier, and he motioned for Goldblossom to follow him as he led her deeper into the trees and finally positioned himself at the base of a large hickory, nose pointed up as the flash of a bushy tail disappeared behind its trunk.

It was close to wolf-level. Maybe not Nen'tah-level, but Goldblossom had a few inches on him, and she was probably fast.

The squirrel slowly descended. Nen'tah remained motionless, waiting for her to strike - that's what he thought she was going to do, anyway.

Goldie had not ever been a great hunter. She knew how of course. She could feed herself. But now the pressure felt large as she was being watched. And if she failed a little one would go hungry. Not that he missed many meals. But was not the point frankly.

Goldie eyed the squirrel with distaste. Carried diseases like rats probably. Were essentially rats in trees. They chattered and caterwhauled constantly. She leapt to bash it in the head. Hoping her paw landed and it would fall to the ground. Where she could quickly dispatch it.

Grasping it with fangs. She gave it a hard shake. Heard the neck crack and dropped it for her new friend.

Skill: Hunter

If Nen'tah had possessed hands, he might have clapped in delight. While he wouldn't have thought less of Goldblossom should her pursuit have failed, the quick and seemingly effortless way in which she dispatched the squirrel only further raised her in his esteem. A wise herb-woman and a hunter!

One day he would hunt, too. Maybe he should practice.

Nen'tah crouched low to the ground, circling the squirrel where it lay from a short distance. He was Lanzadoii. He was made for such things. Real prey would undoubtedly prove far more challenging, but first he needed to master the fundamentals by getting the motions down.

With furrowed brow and little tongue poking out over his lip in studied concentration, the child paused, calculating his trajectory - then sprang into the air as tiny jaws locked onto its slender neck, mimicking Goldie's death-shake of the small carcass. Satisfied, he too then dropped it on the ground in front of her, as if to ask, 'Did I do it right?'

He was willing to take pointers.

There was a look on the youths face of delight and joy. It warmed Goldies heart. How she found him such a dear little already.

Goldie watched with equal delight and pride as he crouched and stalked the now dead beast. But he didn't need it to be alive to practice.

He was utterly adorable. And she felt a little misty eyed to be honest.

Lovely! Just make sure you keep your tail down next time. ] he hadn't even realized she'd bet.

You'll be a great hunter someday!
