RE: A Slight Case of Charity - Nate - 6/2/2026

The doe and fawn reunited in a heartwarming chase between the two wolves, pairing up and vanishing into the brush with no thank-you at all. Nate couldn't really blame them, considering what their helpers looked like, but...

Well, one of these days a little more appreciation and a bit less getting beat to death would be nice!

Hh-eeh— Nate tried to call Etienne, when the fella didn't show up right away at the swift exit of their victims (attackers?) A bit of tightness lessened when he finally clambered out the gully. Of course, the sight of him covered in blood soon stole the joy of it.

By then Nate had sort of managed to sit halfway upright through the throbbing in his ribs and swelling of his throat. Smacking his lips as if to test the function of his jaw, he gestured to his throat. N-hh— Never beegn, askhed t'... sh-hut up, so, rudely, hngk— A wince. Rhibs... too. Ahre yhou—?

The fact Etienne could talk a straight sentence implied to Nate it was nothing dire, and it had already been packed, but shit, that was a lot of blood!

RE: A Slight Case of Charity - Etienne I - 6/2/2026

Etienne was glad they were reunited. A little chuffed they had hurt them for their trouble. But well. They were wolves amd they were deer and it usually wasn't a wolf's intention to help a deer. But eat em.

Etienne heard the call and frankly it sounded bad. So he tried to hurry. Was the man halfway to death? Etienne didn't want his newest acquaintance to die. He'd seen enough death to last him a lifetime. Thank you very much.

Etienne couldn't help the surprise of laughter that left him at the joke. Healing was serious business. But he did laugh. It felt good.

Mebe s'ouldn't talk so muc'. Non

Etienne waved a paw. I be fine. 'Ead wounds always bleed like crazy even w'en small.

He moved closer. I be 'avin' to touc' you. I try be gentle. Make sure no bleedin,' or give.

Healing 2/5

Is he just bruised or is there some fractures somewhere?

RE: A Slight Case of Charity - Nate - 6/8/2026

Either badly bruised or just a hairline fracture, up to you! And he'll be awful hoarse for a few days lol

The laughter made Nate fairly confident he wasn't dying either. Although the thought of being poked and prodded to make sure had a practical root, something less practical in himself succumbed to the urge of brushing off concern.

I-'hm. Fghine. Nate replied, thinking it would be more chiefly or something to prove he could stand and nobody needed to worry over him. So he tried. To stand.

"Not so bad, see?" He wanted to say next, but when he tried to get up oh-so-nobly, the pain decided to rise to the challenge as well and Nate's vision went drunk. Instead, he said something like, Hgshbv—? on the way back down to the grass.

RE: A Slight Case of Charity - Etienne I - 6/8/2026

Etienne was about to argue. But before he could. Nate tried to rise.

Bondye mwen. Egare. Kisa w'ap fè?

Etienne rushed forward as Nate fell back down. He tried to pillow his fall. Not make him jar himself. But it wasn't easy. He had dropped his herbs.

Yes so fine! W'ut do you think you be doin' Huh. You just got kicked in de ribs and de throat. Derr could be bleeding inside.

Etienne clicked around him like a mother hen. Mumbling in haitian creole.

Healing: 3/5

RE: A Slight Case of Charity - Nate - 6/9/2026

Nate did not understand the language, but he certainly recognized he was being scolded.

... Maybe for a good reason.

The english (wolfish?) after erased any doubt, and Nate tried to laugh it off on impulse which went about as well as the rest of it had. Ouch.

Ain't there always bleedin' inside? He wanted to quip, and the refrain was hard to bite back — instead he tried to look as unbothered by the fussing and the flinching of wounds as he could. A brave face might save his dignity where talking only jeopardized it.

Still, Nate managed an appreciative nod at the healer for caring enough to check.

RE: A Slight Case of Charity - Etienne I - 6/10/2026

Etienne was absolutely irked at this man. Who was clearly stubborn. And wanting to show he was fine. When clearly he was not. Etienne did not hold much stock in false bravado.

It annoyed him. If you hurt say you hurt. Otherwise how was anyone gonna help you feel better and that went for all kinds of hurt. And as a healer he couldn't stand not helping.

Etienne was as gentle as could be. The ribs didnt feel broken the windpipe either. But he'd bet they were badly bruised. Nate is lucky the deer was more worried about getting to her babe than hurting him.

You be bruised up pretty bad. But no breaks. Cool water to soot'e yer t'roat. Try not be talkin' too much it be 'hurtin'. De ribs bruised. 'Ard to get around. Soak in de river and eat dis yarrow. It 'elp. It gonna be 'ard to breat'e and move wit' dem ribs but de take only bout three weeks to 'eal.

He turned sharp gaze on the man. But you must rest or it won't 'eal. Now w'ere you be livin' I 'elp you get dere.,

Healing: 4/5

RE: A Slight Case of Charity - Nate - 6/15/2026

Nate nodded at the diagnosis, and refrained from telling the healer anything snarky like, Yeah, I figured, hey did you know I was beaten to death a few months ago? Now those were some broken ribs. Hah!

Etienne might not see the humor in it. Nate wasn't sure he saw the humor in it, either, if he was being honest.

Instead he took the yarrow, chewed with some attempt to look penitent. He'd been through worse than this, he'd died! Twice! He figured if it was just a little bruising, he'd be able to power through just fine. Three weeks was too long to be laying around for a chief!

But — well, he'd take the help for now. Sh-outh of here. He hoarsed. Got a, village. Food and, shelter for you, too... Thanks...

Etienne I regret to inform you that Nate will continue to be annoying in this regard LMAO

RE: A Slight Case of Charity - Etienne I - 6/15/2026

Etienne secretly loves it. He loves to fuss and bemoan, especially at good looking men. :)

Etienne eyed him with golden eyes. A frown tugging at his snout. Was this man telling the truth. He didn't think so. He doubted he'd rest more than a day. Well, that was his fault when he hurt like the dickens.

Etienne shifted and looked around. Gathering his bearings. South was, ah yes that way. He was getting used to this place sort of. The healer moved to help the chieftain. He would be there to lean on and if this Cheif was as stubborn as he seemed, well he'd be there to help him when he inevitable fell down, because he wouldn't take the proffered help.

T'ank you.

Etienne grasped a few more leaves of the yarrow he had carried up from that ditch. Because he wasn't leaving it behind. he had even been smart enough to grab a few with roots. He didn't know if he could keep it alive for however long they were walking. But he would try.

I know you be stubborn, but you gonna 'ave to tell me w'en you need break or i'm gonna make you take one anyway. Dis pain gonna make it 'ard for you to breat'e

Healing 5/5

RE: A Slight Case of Charity - Nate - 6/15/2026

AHAHAH Nate will him SO many opportunities to do this 😌

Oh, well, Nate grinned through a wince, Who ever, needed t'breathe, anyway?

He managed to get to his feet, and from there it got a bit easier to focus on one foot before the other. Adrenaline was a helluva drug and now his lungs weren't clean stolen from him all he really had to contend with was the pain that arced out of every step, inhale, or repartee.

I'm fine. He wouldn't need to take a break.

(He would.)

RE: A Slight Case of Charity - Etienne I - 6/15/2026

Etienne gave a soft snort of laughter. Dis one. Dis wolf likes and needs to breat'e and I am not stubborn enuff to say otterwise.

The healer watched. Each step holding his own breath. Hoping that Nate wouldn't fall or hurt to badly that he couldn't move. But the man's stubborness seemed to win out. That and a lot of adrenaline. Etienne briefly thought about giving him some herbs that knocked him out. But he felt the man would ask what he was giving him.

You can lie to yerself. But don't lie to me. I can see dat you are not. I am trained too.
