RE: bilberry - Lestan - 4/13/2026

skoll. lestan put that aside, wondering now if the young wolf was a dispersal or a lost one, if kirain had found him wandering or if the boy had discovered camhanaich on his own. no matter. he learned swiftly and the toische bobbed his head with approval and encouragement to see the work done. good! g-good! not t-too fast, he warned again, preemptively, having torn many skins on his own by simply rushing.
with time, the hide sloughed down the still limbs. it lay puddled about the sharp still hooves, blood oozing down from all places where the tissue had been torn. lestan demonstrated how to make small rips, pulling pelt over stag-foot and ultimately separating deerhide from body.
magnifique, lestan muttered to himself and to skoll, tail waving furiously. do you know w-what comes next? and, unable to help his own excitement, the man pranced toward the head of the downed creature and its round shoulder, inspecting to see if the antlers could be removed or if it was futile at this point in the season.

Skoll takes his time with the skin removal. It is a slow process - and Lestan's reminder to be slow rattles around his head as the job is finished. He watches attentively as Lestan shows him how to remove the pelt from the body after the tearing is done. His first pelt!

Skoll is ecstatic.

What is the next step? he questions.

Skoll's never done this before. He's not sure what the next step is, but he's still excited regardless. He can't wait to use this new skill again in the future.

th-the n-next step is to remove the antlers. gnaw here, at th-the base. one of the magnificent branches had been compromised in the collapse, and it was these that he wanted for himself and skoll. the deer might keep its other antler in that case.
a fine bounty! and additionally, the mayfair had been able to teach a talent, this thought which brought a friendly wave from his tail. wh-when we are done with that, it w-will be t-time to b-butcher the animal.
the removed skin would make a fine parfleche with which to carry the meat and viscera. lestan was plainly pleased for skoll's help, an open mien suggesting that the younger wolf might ask all the questions he liked.
