Sweetness In Solitude - Ra Ibrahim - 3/25/2026

Never had he experienced such cold weather in his life. The feeling of snow crunching underneath of him made Ra grimace with disgust. How did other wolves stand this stuff? To make matters worse, the huge fissures in the ground were preventing their group from returning home. Would this ever end for this world? Already he was missing the duties he carried around the palace, guarding and protecting the divine royalty with all his being. Ra's time with the little wolf Sitamun had already been forgotten as well, sexual desires quickly becoming less of a priority then his own duties.

So when he was to set out on a patrol on the outskirts of the druids' homeland, there was at least a small sense of peace settling within him. The quiet after the snow storm settled him somewhat in his skin, the only sound of the snow underfoot accompanying him. The only thing that would have made it better, would be to see the stars smiling down upon the golden wolf as if welcoming him back home. Now that would have been a treat.

Cúán found himself wandering, too. The snow and cold still rankled him, but like any man of the Red Canyon, he did not allow it to cow him. He was careful, yes, but not afraid. After a sevenday—perhaps more—passed by, he came to understand it more. In some ways it was like sand, only its treachery differed. In better conditions, he might take the risk of attempting the journey alone.

He glanced up at the overcast sky and frowned. If only he could see the stars!

Without their guiding light, he would be stranded in the gloom. Instead he took to wandering around the Rise, keeping close enough to the druids that his nose could hide him back to their earthy, herbal dens if need be. As he walked, he came upon a set of fresh tracks. Another wolf—but not one of the druids, though traces of their scent lingered. Another of the desert delegation?

Cúán quickened his pace, and soon the stranger came into view. He called out: Hello!

Being alone had its merits yet also its consequences. So when the sound of someone calling for him reached his ears. Ra couldn't help but feel at least some form of relaxation and relief. He turned around to see an earthen colored wolf heading in his direction. They had the scent of the Druids on them, though he hadn't seem him in the territory. Was he one of them? Or just a straggler?

Hello there. Who do I owe the pleasure? Ra waited for the newcomer to catch up completely with him, happy but at the same time a little cautious of the newbie. Being a mazoi still required him to be on his guard, ready for anything that might come his way. The protection of his group was still of the utmost priority, but something about this man didn't scream danger. So he let him in without a huge amount of hesitation. You may call me Ra.

This man looked more like those he remembered from the Three-fold Land: tall and sandy-furred, with striking green eyes. Cúán met them with his own orange ones, his expression open and friendly. The familiarity put him at ease, even though he knew Ra could not be of the same desert he came from.

Still, he was glad to meet another; especially one who had the gait and manner of a warrior. Cúán could see the confidence and vigilance he carried himself with. It did not offend him; on the contrary, it only heightened his respect. You may call me Cúán, he said with a nod. I am a Nualláin of the Red Canyon Sept.

He doubted clan and sept names would mean anything to Ra, but it was a matter of politeness. You come from the desert as well?

Ra waited for the man to catch up, letting his eyes soften just a little bit when the stranger made his way over. Now known to him as Cúán, Ra took in the man's figure with a quick assessment. At the sound of his voice however, announcing that he had also been a desert dweller, he felt himself loosen up. A pleasure to meet someone of a similar up bringing. Yes, I am from a land of deep sand. Green eyes brightened with a kinder expression. Forgive me, I have not heard of your clan. It has been a long time since I have been taken from my old world, so I am not sure if I ever encountered them. There was an almost saddened look to him, though it quickly vanished.

Not really the type to share his emotions too much with strangers, that would come later if the newcomer was lucky. I hail from the kingdom of Satriya in the southern desert of this world. Are you staying with the Druids nearby? Gaining information was something that he was still getting used to doing for the Queen and Pharaoh. But it was something that he always kept in the back of his mind. Though he would have felt more at ease with the Jodai around to help keep him on the right path. Perhaps another lesson was in order. A talk for another time.

A flash of something like sorrow entered the man's expression, and Cúán gave him a searching look. Taken. Not departed by choice. It sounded oddly similar to how Cúán himself had ended up in this strange land. The gods of Satriya had seen fit to pluck this wolf from his old home, too. But Cúán knew better than to pry if Ra did not wish to share, and so he held his tongue for the moment.

I am. They have been very generous, said Cúán. If all wetlanders were like them, perhaps I would have left the desert by choice.

But they are not warriors. A part of me worries for them, he continued.

There was a calming familiarity Ra felt with Cúán, letting him relax and smile just a bit. Though it did pain him to hear that something similar did happen to the male, he took comfort in knowing that he was not alone in this aspect. He took notice to how he spoke of the druids, nodding in agreement as he began to speak.

They are indeed generous. But I too worry for them, as they don't seem to have the will of the warrior. I can only hope that nothing horrific befalls them. Ra moved on from that topic, hoping to bring attention to something more pleasant. Where do you go from here? Do you have a home or kingdom to attend to? An interested ear awaited his answer, not really sure at the moment what he would do with said information.

Yes. I must return to my sept as soon as it is safe to travel, Cúán explained. He held back for now the added detail that he was meant to be the new chief. Would they still accept him as such? Of course, he thought, even if the gods had decided to grant him an additional test. He had survived the trial.

Hadn't he? Unease crept into his expression and posture.

Although, a part of me wonders if this will ever let up... he trailed off, staring up at the darkened sky. No, he thought. Winter must end. Could this be a test from the gods, too? Perhaps he should brave the snows regardless.

Apologies; there is a matter I must attend to. May you find plenty of shade and water, Ra of Satriya, said Cúán with a smile. With that, he turned and strode away, his thoughts clouded by questions he could not answer.

figured I'd wrap this one up, hope thats ok <3

Ra continued to listen to his new acquaintance, wondering what life he was living and where he was meant to go. I'm sure that this will let up. It has to. Perhaps we will see an end before we know it. Then just as swiftly as they had begun to make friends, the man had to depart. It was a pleasure, Cúán. I wish you safe travels. May the gods be gracious to your journey home. The golden man then turned back to join his own party, a small smile on his face seen for the first time in many months.
