It just so happened that his favorite place, and his favorite green flame, were but a little jaunt away from the Big-Fucking-Rock that he now lived at! It seemed strange that his family would want to move from one set of Big-Rocks to another, but Calyx could not pretend to comprehend the politics behind such a choice. The only politics he knew were those of his family, and those bonds drew him away from the societal norms of a traditional pack.

If they left, so would he.

If they stayed, so would he.

It did, however, sadden him to leave behind yet another lovely garden that he had propagated. Despite the fun busyness of a new task, it was such a shame to leave such a lovely trace of nature in his wake. Perhaps, if Cedar would consent to it, they could return to their lovely swamp and gather their precious delicacies.

As he moved, he swayed, wondering if he would need a bigger purse.

Probably.

The rain misted down from the dark clouds, the daylight obscured completely by the heavy Stygian sky. But Calyx still smiled, his mind warm and his body drifting below him without care. The green light in the distance was familiar, a subtle beacon to his moth-like mind. And he would slow for a moment, stilling in the shifting emerald light as his eyes turned toward a nearby tree.

Was that a shadow he saw?

Silence met him.

Hm. Just a tree.

Don't look at me like that, tree, he would offer through smiling lips, clacking his teeth together as he blinked. His golden eyes would dilate in the dim light as he appraised the tree with heavy consideration. As if he didn't believe it was a tree at all.

RE: it's makin' me feel weird - Asvardr - 6/11/2026

many days and nights he has followed the path of bloodscent, nose flush to the earth.

calyx leaves a winding trail in his wake, often doubling back to the same place once or twice or three times in a manner that muddies his exact direction. but asvardr is nothing if not a bloodhound; a patient tracker.

of one thing he is certain: envy may have evaded him, but calyx will not. he will not lose another ward. another will not leave him as once she had.

at long last the intermingled scents of earth and honeysuckle grow stronger, and asvardr's lackluster pace quickens to an eager trot.

he has always been a subdued man. meager emotions, a quiet sense of content with presence alone. but here he at last has what he has wanted for so many weeks. here calyx is, alive and unchanged.

a crooked smile curves his lips, and his tail begins slowly to wag.

The figure before him grew steadily more familiar. It was Not-A-Tree at all ... no ... but the silhouette of a man. Those clouded hues of smoke and ash mingled with the mist. But the edges of his shape would clear, just as the sun peered through the veil of dark sky above them. It was as if the storms would clear, both for the Strand and for Calyx. And soon, everything became obvious ...

The looming figure. The odd smile. The heavy tail wag.

Lindito! A joyous call.

Familiarity rushed through Calyx's golden eyes, a pull at his lips as sharpened fangs glittered. You are not a tree at all! What a relief! More than a relief! This was an even greater surprise than he could have ever hoped for! In fact ...

... Calyx would blink. I was worried our paths had split. A soft admission pressed through an eerie grin. Calyx's eyes danced, dilating warmly.

lindito. a decidedly unmasculine moniker...and yet calyx says it with such overwhelming warmth that the meaning ceases to matter. asvardr, now lindito, draws closer with a friendly grunt. his ruby red eye shines uncharacteristically soft in a way reserved only for one. he draws closer, but...

impulse does not reign him. were he a man of such little character, he would at once have drawn calyx into his embrace.

instead he remains a leap or two away, head low and tail increasing the rate at which it sweeps. a thousand questions swim behind his eyes, none of which he can bring to life. but such is the nature of their relationship; calyx speaks for the both of them.
