dream lover, until then - Tamir - 5/15/2026

It wasn't by chance that he ventured as far as he did. Why his feet never tired, his shoulders never ached, or the urge to turn back was never voiced. Even now, with his faith teetering on a saw worn and broken, did he know. This was where he was meant to be, where the Star Mother yearned to show him his future. Their future.

She led him until the path broke at the top of the mountain, rocks crumbling beneath his feet and rolling back where he'd come— reminiscent of pieces of his past falling away with every step taken. It was unlike many other mountains he'd seen and climbed, unlike the one he and his sister often ran off to in their weakest and most irate of moments. Something about it was different...almost whole in a way he couldn't describe.

Behind him, trailing (hobbling) with the weight of secrets she did not yet wish to share, was Tove. It was her he sought in the midst of his excitement, her that he wished to show this home—their home—if she so wished.

Istia ūndegon, starfire.  Ēza showed nyke bisa, shown nyke bisa future.

I think it to be ours. Though those were words he kept to himself, still too frightened that she might flee and take his unborn children with her. Not that he would deserve anything less, but perhaps giving her a home better than a hollowed log may sway her.

Like a young pup seeing a squirrel, suddenly:

Se jurnegon! arlī inkot kesīr, iemnȳ se cavern, kostā urnēbagon se starlight. His hurried steps led him to the caves that crept back into the mountain—a home within a home. For them. For others.

Help me make home, yes?

He moved too fast, and Tove glared openly at his backside, hurling silent curses and insults that would have earned her a sharp smack across the head from her mother.

Perhaps he pushed ahead because he knew she was avoiding him and lying between her teeth. Pretending what grew so obviously between them could not be seen by silk-bright eyes too.

Gritting her teeth, she followed anyway, only stopping to catch her breath when at last he did. His voice rang out with a warmth she had not expected, an excitement that reminded of what he may have been like as a boy, when things were different, before grief and loss had settled into his bones.

Kessa, kessa, tamir. Iksan jurnegēre!

And suddenly, she was.

Pale eyes widened and she was caught up by all she saw. The mountain was more than it had appeared. It stretched higher than her gaze could follow, ancient, wide stone reaching toward the heavens themselves. Even from here she could see secrets tucked within it. Hidden caverns, sheltered hollows. Places where herbs might flourish and gardens might grow if she would like. Places where stars would gather in pools of silver light and dreams could be answered.

It feels different. Whole. Safe.

Like home.

She was still staring when he started walking again. So fast that she is forced to jog to keep up, heaving labored breaths. Tove nearly stumbles over loose stone, and part of her wishes to shove the shadowsinger off the side of the path.

Paez ilagon, she begs with a growl that scratches against her throat. Mēre hen īlva iksis daor half blēnon hubre!

Yet, she did not push him and she still followed because despite herself, she wanted desperately to see what had excited him in such a way.

Then she saw it.

She looked to him, then to the cavern, eyes resting where the break in the ceiling split apart like a direct viewing into the heavens, and then back at him again. He had found this. He, whom she had doubted. He, whom she had snapped at and argued with and pushed away for weeks.

He had found them a home.

This time, her voice was near a whisper, devoid of irritation and weary doubt. This time, the words that sputter from her are choked in emotion that she can only blame on her belly, but knows it is more than that. Kesan dohaeragon.

She sniffed loudly and immediately looked away.

Lo ao find nyke se sȳrje den lēda se least amount hen spiders. A pause, and she is huffing out a breath toward the shadowsinger, teeth clacking.

Pār kesan dohaeragon.

What she did not say was that even if he failed and spiders crawled freely across her den floor, she would help him anyway.
