Guide This Young Heart - Sitjariaq - 7/1/2026

Something was different about this day, though Sitjariaq could not figure it out. Perhaps it was the sudden bout of curiosity and courage that was super charging him. Maybe it was the wanting of acceptance and belonging that had finally pulled at the boy's heart strings. What ever the case, the spotted wolf came from his den and began to try learning how to track something today. The target? A rabbit that he had seen running around here in the past, hiding away in the brush. While this boy wasn't the best of hunters yet, he was willing to learn so that one day he could provide. If only he could get past this mute thing. Nose to the air, then to the ground, he began his search. Hopefully this wouldn't end in disaster.

Ronan had noticed when the boy left the den this morning, having decided for the first time to follow the youth instead of leaving for his own work. “ Out for a hunt, Sitjariaq?” He called, waiting for the nod or shake of the boy’s head. Despite the months being among them, the boy still didn’t speak but like Midge, he suspected it’d come when he was ready.
The scent of a hare trailed towards him, and the dots connected in his mind. Sitjariaq was almost ready to begin training for An Chéad Seilg, and this was the perfect opportunity to ensure the boy would succeed.
Ronan lowered to a crouch beside the youth, nose shifting to help adjust the boy into the proper position. “Go slow, don’t rush or they’ll hear you.” His words were low, a whisper on the breeze meant only for the boy to hear. There was a rustle in the brush ahead, and Ronan waited to see how the boy would proceed.

Ears twitched to the sound of Ronan coming, but his eyes never strayed from the prize. Instead he froze solid, keeping his muscles and nerves under control as best he could. The elder came forth and crouched down beside him. Sitjariaq could feel his nose press ever so slightly against his own, helping direct him to the rabbit. There was a soft nod of the head, but keeping his eyes forward.

A rustle in the brush signaled the rabbit's location. The pup began his careful approach, keeping his body poised and ready. Each paw walked forward with a careful steadiness. A rock there, a twig over here. All of it carefully stepped over so as not to make a sound. A few feet away now from the target. But Sitjariaq would remain still, quiet. Not until it was time to make a move.

There it was, the soft nod of acknowledgment. The boy moved with instinctual steps, careful to avoid debris that’d alert his prey. He crept slower behind the boy, slightly adjusting the boy’s feet before moving to his side.
The boy’s eyes remained locked on the bushes, ears twitching at each rustle. “There you go, just a little closer.” Whispered encouragement is all Ronan gave the youth as he kept a step behind. He would not ruin the hunt for the boy, but offer his help should he be needed.

Everything was going okay so far. Especially with Ronan's guidance, the feeling of the man adjusting his footwork bringing calmness and clarity to his mind. Sitjariaq remained close to the rustling prey, quiet and calm as he waited for the perfect moment to ambush. Eyes were wide with excitement and the thrill of the hunt. Was this how adults felt when they went hunting? Ears snapped hard at attention to the animal breaking through the shrubbery, hopping a tad bit too close for comfort.

Steady....steady....GO! The youngster took off after the bunny in quick bounds, catching it off guard and making it head towards a blocked area of trees. The rabbit ran in panic, though got caught up so much in the chase that it hit a dead end in the chaos. In no time, the white pup was on his prey, grabbing it quickly before it could get away and holding it in place. Now what?

Pride swelled in his chest upon watching the boy burst forward, hard on the hare’s heels. Ronan followed suit at an easy trot, having heard the snapping of branches in the heat of Sitjariaq’s pursuit.
Ronan found the boy holding down the hare, and for a second he thought it was dead until it shifted in his grip. “It’s time to end the hunt, Sitjariaq.” His voice was soft, gentler than its usual grit. “Bite it at the nape, and give it a quick twist.” He stayed at the boy’s side, not pushing, but waiting.

RE: Guide This Young Heart - Sitjariaq - 7/2/2026

The boy born to be a hunter, a killer, stood there with the hare in his mouth. Ronan followed right behind him, catching up without a single problem. Then came the instructions, the talk of ending it entirely. Sitjariaq struggled internally for a moment, knowing that he was hungry, but also knowing that he was about to end a life. He had never killed anything before, though he had seen it done.

But this was the first time that it was left entirely to him. There was only one answer however, to end the animal's suffering. To heed the call of his nature, his instincts. The boy did as he was told, shaking the hare and giving it one good snap of the neck.

Then it was all over. The animal hung limp in his jaws, only to be gently placed on the ground. The boy looked to his teacher for approval next, unsure if he should go ahead and eat, or if there was more to be done.
