A figure of silver dashed through the fields, giggling and jumping about, enjoying the sunrise in its best moments before the sun rose and others began to complain about the summer heat. What heat? What did..heat feel like? Was it like when she snuggled up to ma? That fluttery feeling in her belly?

The tall stalks brushed against her chest and shoulders as she zigzagged through them, scattering startled insects into the air. She chased after them immediately, ears perked high.

Come back! I just wanna see what you are!

A butterfly drifted lazily above her nose.

Oh! You're pretty!

She hopped.

Missed.

Hopped again.

Missed even worse.

With an undignified fwump, Éabha face-planted into the soft earth.

...I meant to do that.

She stayed there for a heartbeat before giggling uncontrollably, tail thumping against the ground.

Rolling onto her back, she watched fluffy clouds drift overhead between crimson stems. The flowers smelled sweet—mixed with the ever-present pine that clung to her silver fur—and bees buzzed lazily somewhere nearby. It was... peaceful.

Far too peaceful.

Her paws began to itch with restless energy.

She sprang up again.

I bet I can run all the way to that hill! Who was she talking to?

She couldn't.

Halfway there, a rabbit burst from the undergrowth.

ACK!

The rabbit had no chance to continue whatever rabbit business it had planned.

Éabha gave chase with delighted barks, legs pumping as she barreled after it through the waving crimson field. The rabbit darted left.

She went left.

It zigged.

She zagged.

It disappeared beneath a shrub.

...Cheater.

Snorting, she shoved her muzzle into the bush after it, only to emerge with petals stuck all over her face instead.

...Now I look like a flower.

Another fit of laughter escaped her.

As she shook herself off, something sharp caught against her foreleg. She barely noticed the thorn that scraped a thin line through her skin, too distracted by a dragonfly glimmering in the sunlight.

Ooooh!

Off she went again.

Tiny drops of blood disappeared into the crimson flora behind her, unnoticed by the girl who couldn't feel the sting. Instead, she chased the dragonfly until she tumbled headfirst down a gentle slope, rolling into a patch of impossibly soft moss at the bottom.

Silence.

Then...

Hehehe...

...Again!

She scrambled back to her paws, tongue lolling happily from her mouth, eyes bright with endless curiosity.

To Éabha, every flower hid a secret, every fluttering wing was a new friend to chase, and every hill begged to be climbed.

The crimson fields welcomed her with open arms.

And for a little while, the cheerful girl believed the whole world was just as kind. Seeming to of forgotten of the thing that left her shoulder with a scar that now faintly glows. Did she even truly remember that day? Or had she just hyperlocked into protecting that snowflake she didn't even process they wanted her too?
