see you on a dark night - Mir - 1/20/2025

They say monsters lurk in the shadows on the brim. That's part of why Mir chose it. It's approximately close to Elysium, about a day and a half's hike, and yet no one comes here often. Monsters in the shadows, demons in the water. Mir will believe it when she sees it, but for now, the only dangerous thing here is her.

Under the thin light of the moon, she can make out various flora growing in bunches along the edge of the sand. It must be hardy grass, she thinks, and perhaps little else. Maybe certain digestive systems would react poorly to it, but the taste is too obvious to make it useful for much. She'd rather look to the more fertile soil up the way, where she could certainly grow some hemlock. The flower is pretty, and decisively dangerous. She'll have to be careful while planting it.

No, this place will do nicely. She's all alone here, or so she thinks, until she hears the sound of feet on the sand. The smell of another person-- a smell she does not know. For a moment she wonders if the legends are true. Wouldn't that be an interesting discovery? But she dismisses it and walks towards the sound. Fear is not useful. She must keep track of people close to where she's staking out her claim.

Perhaps, eventually, she'll become one of the rumors on the Brim. How delightful would that be?

RE: see you on a dark night - Pollux - 1/20/2025

It's only been two days into her travels, and so far the young woman has been blessed by the quiet. The peace that came from being alone after so long surrounded by yelping children's voices echoing through the mountains.

She...thinks she's been making good time, probably. The frozen river had been a godsend, cutting off days from her plotted route to Northfall, though by her guesses it will still be...a while. Oh, how she missed her car and drivers, she would have been there by now.

But noooo, she had four paws, strong legs, and a determination to meet up with her family once more. Warcrest should be following behind her shortly, but she had wanted to leave earlier to ensure she'd actually get thrre. Who knows how many pit stops the 4 month old pups would need to take?

After settling in just before sunset for a snooze, and waking up before midnight to continue on her journey, the scent of another on the wind reached her. Pawsteps next, and she'd kill for a lamp as she strained to see.

Oh my my, what's a pretty lady like you doing in a dreary place like this? She called out once she was able to make out the shape of another, ignoring the fact that she too was a pretty lady in a dreary place such as this.

Though outwardly she'd state she's the loveliest girl in Elysium, it's since been informed that the petite and slender types are considered beautiful. Mir is all muscle, her broad muzzle an irregularity among wolves. Her beauty, if anything, is strange. Solid. Physical. This girl is taller than her, though, and Mir supposes next to her, she might look the picture of petite and beautiful.

The smile that crosses her face is smug. "И ты думаешь, что я не из ночи? " Her words in English are spoken slower, the accent thick and implacable-- the mix of Northfall and Elysium has ruined her speech patterns. "I am here for the dune grass. One of the few things that holds on. The snow should bury it soon." She's decided she'll rip out the throat of anyone who mocks her accent. So long as her nouns are right.

"It is a shame that winter happens and the plants die." There's almost a bit of lament in her voice.

The light of recognition is in her eyes as she hears the girl speak russian, though she only remembers a few words from her nannies as a child, it's enough to place the tongue at least. Ah, forgive me dear, my russian is...rusty Barely there, more like.

She was the picture of grace as the other yearling continued in english, unbothered. She's had more than enough practice with workers and business partners, but which one will this girl be, or would they just be ships passing in the night..

Dune grass? Whatever is that for? What even was it really, but she wasn't about to say that. Yes, a shame that. There isn't a good way to preserve them for long either, that doesn't leave them open to little creatures eating your hard work

The perks of having a healer friend, knowing the usual complaints of the herb gatherers.

Polly's English is flawless, unaccented. She's almost jealous. Mir circles, less for threat and more to get a good look at the taller girl. Taking note of physiology, the shape of her markings, the general view of her-- a healthy creature, after all. And she's almost certain a creature like this would be missed. "The dune grass prevents erosion," she says with a shrug. "It's one of the last things alive. It could be used to induce vomiting if poison were to be ingested, as it irritates the stomach. But it can cause lesions."

This much she has tested. The subjects sometimes vomit up blood from the sharp edges of the dunegrass against their tracts. There doesn't seem to be much else in the way of effect. "It's not good eating, truthfully. But there are ways to dry herbs. More securing them from creatures, though, that is the danger." She sighs. "I have been absent for long. Not enough time to start my own garden before the snows."

RE: see you on a dark night - Pollux - 1/28/2025

Pollux can see what the other girl is, a predator, a shark circling another shark. She stands there knowingly, tail raised as her eyes track the girl, but the stranger is smart at least and leaves her be. Prevents erosion... is that the tall brown grass near the ocean then? Vaguely she knew of it.

It was her turn to circle now, aiming to brush her tail against the other friendly like. No time to make a garden this far north darling? I have found that winter sets in quickly up here, but further south... she gave a hum, a swish of her tail. The medic in my home pack may still have her garden, down near the southern ocean, though I have a friend with an ample supply of dried herbs far closer if you have a need.

An outstretched hand, though she wouldn't give Warcrest's location to just anyone.

A soft smile crosses her face. This woman is proud, powerful, and definitely keen if she sees a good opportunity. Mir likes that. An offering, rather than anything else. "I wouldn't mind meeting your friends. Are you heading that way now?" She tilts her head slightly. A slow smile crosses her face. "I offer something for something, in this case. I am studying here. Improving our arts, our understanding of the body. If your home pack supplies herbs, I can offer the results of what I am learning."

There's a bit to this place, she thinks. She ought to claim it. Any other pack could come in and take it. Finding allies, people to protect the Brim from outsiders... Well, it'd be helpful. At least the presence of occupation would be nice.

Ah, no, Northfall actually. My cousin's grandfather was murdered, and there's going to be a celebration in his honor Later, she'll find out it's also for their father, but thats...later. I'll be gone from this area for a while, though i'll see if our healer will agree to sharing her stock

Studying here huh? Alone?

I'm not sure if she'll agree to the herbs herself, though perhaps I could talk her into some seeds to plant...though, where would you get your test subjects? I'm intrigued darling A potential ally in the making, perhaps?
