the water is fine - Maja - 4/28/2025 Skill: Seer 1/5 Preparation. They're leaving soon, and normally she'd be thinking about how this could be her trial as a warrior. But last night, the dreams came to her. A miasma sliding down her throat, a heaviness in her stomach. She could not stop retching. She could not breathe. And in her vision, she'd never seen the valley she stood in. But something told her it was important-- related to their future.
She can't shake the dreams. Anxiety is not normal for her. Travel isn't something she knows particularly well, but she had been excited-- as excited as Quiet Maja could manage. She wanted to see more of the world, to discover her place within it. Perhaps it was not even here, on the island, but... Well. Telling herself it's foolish, she approaches Tyr anyway. She makes sure to stay in his line of vision, knowing her quiet approach was known to frighten many. Ragnhildr told her she'd make a great hunter, but is that her passion? She's not sure. Regardless, she's before Tyr now, her head low in respect. "Skorungr." She makes sure to raise her voice above its normal soft tone. "I don't want to bother you. Is this a good moment?" The world had a funny way of throwing a spanner in the works when it was getting tough. They'd been preparing to leave to visit the allies of Freya for a couple of days, and things didn't stop popping up. First, you had the arrival of kin, then a guy was coming out of the woodworks, and next, a crater was now at the base of the mountains. This was all after he'd had to go on a search for a lost child and somehow stumbled into the ancestors of this god forsaken land.
It was times like this that Tyr felt the strain on his mental and felt the aching of his chest, for guidance from the soul-bound Queen and a yearning for her comfort to soothe his worries. He had taken himself in early the night before; however, instead of seeking his usual abode, his feet seemed to guide him to the den of the previous Queen. The dirt smelled stale, and the melting snows had long washed away her scent. Remained the rotting leaf litter, scattered through the moss that had lined her bed, and in the corner lay the bear pelt he'd gifted her many moon cycles ago. The Norseman had stood staring for quite some time, unable to force himself in or to break the memory of her life. But push came to shove, and the aching of his chest powered through, the reminiscence beckoning him to embrace what was left. He'd spent that night like a child, curled against the bear as if it might link him to her once more, pressing deeper against the aging hide whenever emotions swelled deep within the deeper recesses of his heart. It had hurt, it still hurt. Come the morning, Tyr had risen early, body hollow with a headache akin to a hangover. He'd pulled the molding hide from her den and laid it outside to air, to bask in the morning sun. An attempt to hold onto the past, it would seem, as any fool could see that what remained of the bear was barely a rag fit for washing. This was no royal offering like it had once been. When the presence of another caused his ear to turn, his eyes lifted from the rugged hide, paws halting in their attempt to smooth out the creasing. It was Maja, the one who remained despite her sponsor vanishing into the night. A young girl, who showed promise, but was quieter than what Tyr was used to when compared to his own brood. Maja,he greeted with the muster of a smile, a leader hiding his grief beneath an iron-clad veil, As good a time as any, how may I help? RE: the water is fine - Maja - 4/29/2025 Skill: Seer 2/5 Lavender eyes flick from the pelt to the God-King, her questions dying in her throat. She doesn't need to know. If he wants to tell her, he will, but she is nothing to him save another face in the crowd. She knows her place, and takes up as little of it as possible. To be a burden is the greatest sin. And would speaking to him of the dream be making herself heavy? "I dreamed of water thicker than blood." It's the only way she can describe it, how heavy the water felt. "It burned through my skin. It ate away my fur. I stared out at the valleys above the surface and burned to nothing." She remembers it being absolutely quiet. The noise drowned out by the water in her ears. "On the shores, wolves I've never seen dying, and our clan as well." Speaking it aloud makes it seem foolish. Her eyes drop. "It could be nothing. It seems nothing now that I'm saying it. Sorry. I mean not to bother you." RE: the water is fine - Tyr - 4/29/2025 ![]() 「 Skill Point ― Seer 」
Her words rained upon his ears like a bucket of ice, a cold vision falling from the girl's lips. It reminded him greatly of the one Freya came to him with, their litter in question being the chosen to remove the evil from this earth, and thus ending the time of pain that chained up and strangled so many.
Each vision had its own unique way of presentation, but this one was vivid. A nightmare that haunted your dreams and awoke you in a sweat. He mulled it over for the briefest of moments before fixing Maja with a look, one of curiosity, for she had been given the god's vision; a messenger who visited her in her dreams. These dreams of yours, never doubt them, for they often bleed little truths into our reality.he offered with a thoughtfulness. It was never good to discourage the hidden voice of the shadows. Tell me, child, is this your first dream like this? RE: the water is fine - Maja - 4/30/2025 Skill: Seer 3/5 Is it her first dream like this?
Was it a dream, what she lived before? The ways she dies over and over and over? Every time she's died, something has happened. She can't remember it all, but there are patterns. Her face shifts slightly, subtly, as she recalls smoke in her lungs. Over and over and over. "I die in all of them." Tyr's the only one who's ever believed her, she knows that much. But, if he believes himself to be a God, then of course he'd believe her about her dreams. "And it's only death. I never see anything else. Whenever I dream about death, someone dies." She stares at her paws for a moment. "I... I sometimes remember, before I came here, that I wasn't a wolf." Two lives. One as a wolf. One as a girl. And it's hard to see which one is real. "And in both, I think I really did die. Both in my dreams, and for real." RE: the water is fine - Tyr - 4/30/2025 ![]() 「 Skill Point ― Seer 」
She spoke of death, dying in them all while watching others perish alongside herself. Such dark dreams for such a young mind. Except, she was not necessarily as young as she appeared to be. Another life, of course, it was another life. Mythris, this land, it pulled folks from all walks of life, any manner of being.
She was not always a wolf. Death is a way of life, and to see a glimpse of someone's end is a gift not many have. The wisewomen of his time, the völur, were highly regarded figures and often told of fortune and ill will. They were often used for guidance, so perhaps Maja's dreams were preventable fates. There was no other way to find out. How soon after do your dreams take place in reality?a simple question, but one he was hoping could point in the direction of who and where will be affected. |
