For anyone but for Freya

She'd been taken in by a sweet lady, one who smelled like herbs and spoke in soft voices... She had other babies there, they were bigger than herself but they were nice and didn't seem like they would bully her at all.

Tilting a pale head the duo-toned optics scanned the dark den. It was night and she had just woken up from a very long nap...

Yawning a squeaky sound the female stood up and shook out her short furred pelt, stretching out a brown spotted forelegs to reach out and try grabbing the air in front of her with a grunt. She had grown quickly but not fast enough so she was still small and she hated it.

Looking upwards was so annoying and she just wanted to sprout into something tall and mighty...

The moon sent beams of light into their home and Cata took advantage of it and bounded forwards and out into the world. Standing on the ground before her she tilted her head upwards and jerked an ocher nose to the wind and try to scent something new and exciting. Finding nothing she sighed and placed her nose to the ground to continue on into the deep dark wilderness to find entertainment.

She could smell the scents of the den, her safety, behind her and the girl shrugged as she shirked off the dangers that could be present in the world.

While Freya’s first litter was only a few months older than her newest additions, she still felt better equipped to deal with the unplanned antics of young pups. While Viola hadn’t been all that extroverted, Bella had helped shape the mother into one that could think a bit more on her feet in the moment.

When Cataleya decided to roam off into the night, the healer nudged her still-slumbering pups closer to one another before going in pursuit of the young girl. Was she simply exploring her new home? Was she eager to learn the lay of Mistveil? Or was she potentially looking for her real family? There was no denying how greatly Freya would be relieved should they find her missing family, but there was also an evident sadness that lingered at the thought… How selfish of her. How could she justify her own heartache when it meant keeping a family apart?

Cataleya, Freya called softly into the darkness, her expression warm and gentle. A small wag of her tail added to her maternal posture—it was almost funny how naturally it came to her. Freya had wanted to be a mother for all of her life; the joy of children and the comfort only a mother could give were always driving factors.

A soft voice, one she barely recognized, one she'd come to know as Freya... Mother? Perhaps now she would become as Cata couldn't remember her own mothers face... Was there ever a mother?

Stopping in her tracks the child craned her head over her shoulder to peer at the larger woman and turned around to face her. She still wasn't sure what to call the lady, should she call her mom? Mother? Mutter?

Tilting her head to the left the tiny girl bounded over to the woman with a yelp on her lips, her pale paws carrying puppy weight in a waddle as she neared. She woofed a greeting as she nuzzled against the womans legs with her nose gently. Eyes shut tight as the small woman drew warmth from Freya.

It had taken little to no effort to coax the young girl to her side, Freya smiled softly as contact was made. While Cata hadn’t said anything, her actions alone were enough to communicate the subtle forming of a bond between them. Green eyes grew heavily lidded, examining the silver glow that shone on the girl’s russet fur. It was lovely and faintly reminded her of Tulio. While her brother wasn’t as vibrant, he still stood out among the litter of blues and grays. She couldn’t help but wonder how her family was.

While spring sun warms our days, there is still a noticeable chill at night, a quietly voiced observation as she lowered her head to hover beside Cataleya’s. She really was a darling little thing, wasn’t she? And what adventures have brought you out beneath the moon? was she searching for something? A distant, faint pang echoed in her belly— what if she had been searching for her estranged family? Freya couldn’t help but wonder what happened to them.
