Act III: Hubris - narrator - 8/2/2025 Story Unlocked, Part Three : 「 Hubris 」 All creatures of Mythris experience this dream.
Those who were not involved IC before will likely be confused or frightened, as they were not aware of anything regarding the situation prior. You're used to it now. You close your eyes in anticipation as sleep gradually takes hold... The wind rushes past you as you fall hundreds of feet from the sky with a strange sense of calm, and you hear the voice chuckle within the bounds of your mind. You are getting better at this,it says. There is a shift in its presence as you feel it suddenly grow colder, more serious. With your most recent efforts, I have the strength to grant another vision of our history... I hope you are not squeamish. The sky vanishes around you in the blink of an eye to be quickly replaced by an unsettling scene - you're in the woods, that much you can see, but something else catches your eye in the distance. Simply by focusing, you're able to shift your surroundings into that which you wish to observe; it's a wolf, curled up in agony, writhing on the forest floor as if being torn apart from within. Nothing looks wrong, but the air is suddenly split apart by a piercing scream as it twists itself into increasingly uncomfortable positions. Spittle flecks the corners of its mouth as its eyes roll back - you notice how startlingly blue they are before they vanish - another scream tearing out from its ragged lungs as the wolf coils again in pain. 'What's wrong with them?' you ask the voice. Consequences. The tone is cold, clipped; you do not inquire further, feeling the answer is not far from revealing itself. This time it is not a scream, but a low, guttural roar that rips out from the writhing wolf. It doubles over in renewed anguish as two wounds suddenly open on its back, the flesh splitting apart as if - something was emerging - They're underdeveloped and malformed, but you know what they are. As they tear out through the wolf's bloodied shoulders, it howls again in pain before collapsing onto its side, and the sad, twisted vestigial remnants of what would otherwise be wings clutched weakly at the air. They would never be capable of flight; more than that, they looked exceedingly painful. It was only in later generations, saturated with the Blue, that these aberrations fully manifested. You blink, and the scene has shifted. You let out a gasp. It is Mythris, but - different. So much different. High, twisting spires pierce the sky, surrounded by other mysterious structures as you see a network of roads and increasingly foreign designs covering the greater portion of the continent, and as you focus your attention, you see that populating this strange civilization are... wolves. Or what might have once been called wolves. Four-legged creatures with wings, elongated fangs, horns, scales; every manner of mutation had overtaken them as a species, and all of them had the same blue eyes emitting a faint, pulsing glow. They are the dominant species, having weaponized the Blue at Mythris' core to further their own desires. Forests leveled, lakes sucked dry; every resource had been consumed in their pursuit of power, expanding their territories until what few prey species remained dwindled to an unsustainable level as the wolves' greed and hunger ever increased. Abruptly, the vision disappears and you jolt awake with a start. You are where you had fallen asleep, but where normally the voice would end the dream with another cryptic statement, this time it seemed... disturbed. Something is wrong -the voice says, strained. Something that does not belong here has just appeared - it should not belong - It sounds worried. Something has arrived, and Mythris has brought it here in anger. Plague Progression : 「 Parasites 」 A startling new threat has entered the world, seemingly another desperate measure enforced by Mythris in an attempt to defend itself from a repetition of the past. Even more unsettlingly, it appears to have pulled in this new danger via the enemy - a wolf - as a means to this end. Any new threads utilizing the BWP tag may now have the chance to encounter this parasite! |
