Before sunrise there was no breath of air to set the trees dancing or break the stillness save many shifting feet. The time had at last come for Satriya to decamp and begin their pilgrimage into the north. Having forged ahead, he and Taliba returned to the sides of their respective royals and marshalled the people into good order— almost two dozen men and women striding through the cool night. They walked on as the moon rose and slid across the sky above them, throwing a good light. At dawn they reached a small valley within which to water and rest, and it was here the scent of a kingdom wafted down from the foothills and marked their first advancement. Pharaoh Khaemwaset moved at the head, flanked on the left by jodai and the right by Charmion. Sapair had arranged for Phoenix Rising, Y'var'la and Setemhotep to follow, conscious of their stations of import and close enough to lend a voice for the king’s ear. Sitamun and Merneith together was almost a surreal manifestation. Sapair did not long allow his attention upon them. The queen had insisted the youngest lady Satiah and the Ankhdjet boy walk with her, and so he had Mesen-ka guard their backs while Taliba manned the divine side. He had lost count of the number of desertine wares, preyskins, precious stones and seeds their people carried upon the abled backs of Ra, Kierkegaard , Aakesh and Saif. The man Nokht had an obvious limp, but he was strong enough and still made to carry. The party lacked no majesty, guarded by Arcana's strength and Asra 's eyes. Once again jodai was reminded how readily men will follow an image or reputation. But the young king was proving to be an opportunist in the jaded eyes. Their path up into the foothills was stone and paws passed loudly over it like the drumbeats of an army. Sapair’s next act was to raise a voice in summons for the people who dwelt along the spires. “Here stands the Kingdom of Satriya, realm of Khaemwaset the First, Pharaoh of the Upper Desert,” his howl informed. In the position of honor at his king’s left side the man remained staunch and awaited answer. RE: Flight of Horus - Nyra - 8/16/2025 The howl immediately brought Nyra's hackles to raise - a kingdom on her doorstep. Egyptians, of course; the Sovereign sent a bitter glare to the sky as if Odin himself might be there laughing at her - as she made her way down the slopes until the Einvald stood some ways above the mass of wolves on her border. She leveled them all with a hard but neutral-authoritative stare, her voice carrying loud and clear from above them; "Here reigns the empire Jakten, of which I am co-Einvald - Nyra. State your business." Her tone and burning-gold eyes were harsh, but otherwise the entirety of her remained impassive. Her tail was high above her hips, her stance one of unyielding dominance. As much as she privately wanted to tell them all to leave and never return - based on the past experiences she had with Egyptians in lives long past by now...the tactical part of her would wait it out, see what they wanted, and go from there. Her ears cupped forward with silent expectance while she awaited Jaxxon to join at her side. RE: Flight of Horus - Jaxxon - 8/16/2025
Skill: Diplomat
They had just barely arrived home when a call rang out through the mountains. A beckoning of their leaders and Jaxxon sighed, his heart heavy the man shook himself out, his fur ruffled a bit before settling and he sighed again before slapping on a more professional face and set off towards where the cry had come from. Upon arriving the man saw many numbers of wolves, they smelled of incense and other various things he couldn't quite place through the throng of them all. He had just arrived as Nyra finished speaking and the man placed himself at her side. Standing tall his tail was also curled over his haunches in a display of dominance. The look on his face was a serious one as he spoke. I am Jaxxon, Co-Einvald of Jakten. What can we do for you folks...?He questioned, a little less harsher than his female counterpart. Joxer always handled the more diplomatic things but here he was, front and center in front of a pack of southern dwelling wolves. RE: Flight of Horus - Khaemwaset - 8/16/2025 thrilling privately to himself, khaemwaset had not been able to sleep much the day before, at last setting himself to swim until that at last exhausted his muscles. now beneath the moon he stood in glinting godhead, his eyes upon neith alone with a small bow to his mouth. they would be separated during travel, for he must stay abreast with sapair and his escort, and she with her own.
but before all their company he kissed her, gazed into the garnet eyes that had for so long been the only ones to know those ineffable places within the secret heart of pharaoh. there was no order for his sister, Queen of Satriya; he said unspoken that he must not have her in the vanguard -- not yet. bathed in the knowing light of Thoth, their company was splendid, he saw, a column of strong bodies well-fed by mutual aim. the makings of an army, two courts springing up amid the power of the gathering around both himself and the queen. khaemwaset enjoyed the spectacle of it, of the company stretching out to settle around their royals. sapair's strong voice echoed hard in the veiled morning, and he felt a great anticipation to meet these moor-dwellers, though already he longed for the splendor of the sands in which the obelisk reared. the jodai stood to his left, and khaemwaset motioned vaguely that bodies should shift to clear merneith's path. it was not lost on him that his captain had not announced his sister, though he was too filled with the journey to be angered. it would not do for him to correct the man, not when a pair of strangers had come on strong rejoin to the summons. instead he remained unreadable, letting his eyes take quickly the measure of the powerful pale woman and the equally intimidating man at her side. co-einvald, he noted. so they shared the leadership. jaxxon and nyra, einvalds of jakten, began the young Horus in smooth tones, tail gleaming ironwood in a long arc. the gods of satriya have decreed that a sojourn to give word of our kingdom should be undertaken. i and my august sister, the Queen Merneith, aspire to peace and to trade with our allies, and there was a pause of invitation for the alabaster woman and the dark-hued warrior, should agreements be made. but as a show of goodwill, we have brought a sampling of beauty from the far-flung sands and would like to share a taste of it with jakten. khaemwaset would promise no large measure of gifts until welcome was given by nyra. he saw the hardness in her which was minutely reflected in jaxxon. would she be more than teeth, however? he had to assume that a fighting mind lay behind the cold greeting, and that she had reason to give potential insult to so many at her border. patiently, he waited, expecting that y’var’la had been close to hear all things and to record them in her mind. to accept meant that negotiations could be had, but not before a mutual meal of affability. there were the manners of court to observe. all began with a single acceptance or denial of the nuanced power which pharaoh cupped in proverbial palm. RE: Flight of Horus - Merneith - 8/17/2025 Neith sees before her the image of ivory and umber crocodiles, with their coxcombed tails held erect and their jaws opened. They are powerful and cautious, as well they have reason to be, but the rest is made small with distance and she wonders if they might come down as Satriya’s intention is eloquently relayed. Khaemwaset, fierce as obsidian, yet tempers his tones with clever tinctures for listening ears. His power ripples through the sterns of their multitudes and draws out across her own veins, the conviction in her eyes rising simply by touching his own. She filters forward through the parting to stand at the king’s side. “It is a pleasure to be acquainted, Einvalds.” Einvalds, what a strange term, and strange names. Was Jakten to be their first ally? She would welcome further learning if the desire was shared. RE: Flight of Horus - Phoenix Rising - 8/19/2025 skill: vagabond Behind Pharoah, who was flanked on either side by the head of the royal courts, did the Phoeonix walk. Two others just beside, a young woman and man. A man which was colored absolutely smoldering in the eyes of the Phoenix. She was happy to walk at his side. Thry traveled from their camp in the great redwood forest and to the base of mountains the priestess had yet to come. When it was time to rest in the valley, she did so. When it was time move again, she took back to her position in the convoy promptly. They brought the power of the desert to mountain doorsteps. Aside, she steps, as the young Queen comes to settle at the side of her Pharoah in right. She is the light and Pharoah, the endless night. Both cloaked with the dustings of royal gold. They are captivating, the pair, and Pheonix Rising smiles brightly upon them. RE: Flight of Horus - Ezra - 8/19/2025 skill: warrior (guard duty) Einvald. The wolves of the spine had come to join them in the misty mountains further south. With them came a culture that was all too familiar to Ezra. It was good to hear these words of his homeland again. He thought now what became of them, especially so now with the runes and plagues. Had Northfall finally succumb to the pressures of time? Was there still those that spoke of Stormborn anymore? The spine wolves had merged with the pack of Saints and now Ezra found himself following the pawsteps of one of them now. The great white, as he thought of her. How long would they be miserable shaking out their thick coats to grow acustom to the much more southern region. Ezra shook, remembering his own discomforts not so long ago. Now he comes to flank them both, his uncle and new Einvald. He remains just behind, a bloodied gaze studying the horde ahead of him. Wolves of the southern region. A place the norseman had no intention to go. Still, he looked to them curiously. They were an extravagant bunch to behold and what a great many pretty little trinkets they carried. The viking licked his lips with gluttonous hunger. RE: Flight of Horus - Setemhotep - 8/21/2025 Hotep stood quietly to the side, posture subservient and subtle as had been bid by Divine Queen. Here he would appear as handservant to the Pharaoh, not hem, not Seer. Though there was much, indeed, to see. He understood those beside him to be a Priestess of Osiris and a courtly advisor, and though the trials of posture and pretend were not close to his heart, there was some amusement in knowing he, now lowly, stood among such giants. Like the priestess, he smiled at the Queen's arrival. It was no vulnerability to show awe over those rightly deserving of it. Let their neighbors see that Satriya burned brightly for its rulers. But now, with subtle eyes, his sun-bright gaze considered the strangers. How they spoke, how they postured, where they positioned their guards. No, Hotep did not enjoy the convoluted pleasantries of court, but he knew how to perform them. The white one — yes, a true warrior. Fearsome and aloof. The other, the man... he did not speak as one accustomed to formal proceedings. He sounded common. How had he come to power? The third though, not introduced — so perhaps a servant, or a guard — had a mercenary look. In Hotep's old life, greed had been frequent enough in rival kingdoms. Some postured and begged for the favor of rich gifts. Others thought to take them at the point of fangs. In this sojourn, Satriya would no doubt be tested. Pharaoh might indeed be required to prove these were gifts, which could only be given, and not taken. RE: Flight of Horus - Mesen-ka - 8/24/2025 Mesen-ka herded the young girl and boy to the back of Pharaoh and Queen. There, he watched with the embers of his fur beating hot under sunlight. They would mingle again with forest wolves, and this time, Pharaoh Khaemwaset was no prince. Young boy with warmth had hardened his edges gathering an army in the desert and wrapping arms around his sister. Boldness came with maturity. Now it was Medjay, Jodai, and he as the veteran up front with the royalblood. Would they make the mistake of denying their young gods gifts? Mesen-ka tasted the idea on his tongue. How amusing it would be to see another scramble of teeth over land and scrap. Call him a devil on their shoulder today. He’d grown bored in the forest and wished for entertainment if Khaemwaset could not win them over. All would be a present to him to get out of tree cover and back into Ra’s arms. There, he’d think of Zharille again. Today, however, they were to be nice, and he would choose to present as a forgettable shadow following the queen. But Neb saw them all. And he saw especially the fun hungering viking boy. RE: Flight of Horus - Sapair - 9/3/2025 we can keep this one moving if you like since charmion's player is on leave <3 no posting order
Jodai did not break his gaze, measuring from the outset those of Jakten who approached. He stepped aside for the king’s queen to pass. Pharaoh offered his land’s rare favors. Sapair looked on, his sole duty to maintain a wedge of steel between the two powers which were potentially dangerous adversaries. |
