(Bwp) Follow it - Vitus - 10/16/2025 Occultist Set immediately after Return
The ritual had led to a sign, the clap of thunder and the wind playing in his and Wardruna's fur before taking off, leading the pair elsewhere on the mountain range. As the pair chased after it, Vitus was putting the puzzle pieces together in his mind, which was mostly him thinking he should see what happens with a live sacrifice, or at least a freshly killed...but what if he had gotten this sign because the deer was an older kill? What if the plagued lands needed the rot to answer? He needs to test his theory, but first, the task at hand. Side by side with Wardruna, they chased. RE: (Bwp) Follow it - Wardruna - 10/19/2025 skill: Seer The gods had spoken. They drew the path my wind and snow and so both Wardruna and Vitus heeded it without question. Together they ran, following the wind, until they were no longer in the high reaches of the mountains as they once were. Instead, much further south, into the gently sloping foothills which would take them into the outskirts of the mountain which would become the deep wooded Briar Veil. It is here where Wardruna paused her run, panting. The first rune I saw, that first mass dream, it had weird symbols and glowed blue. She spoke to Vitus. Did he remember? Surely had had to. Wardruna's head whipped around her, olive eyes seeking. RE: (Bwp) Follow it - Vitus - 10/19/2025 Occultist That had been the first time, coming to Northwind summit to seek similar guidance from Ragnar's grave, though then he hadn't been nearly as urgent, hadn't brought a proper offering. But then the air had choked, suffocated, others had been drawn to the summit as well in droves. I rememberhe answered. Fiadh and Valeska had found similar runes at Elysium's lake sourceas they stopped to catch their breath, Vitus' eyes sought out the wind blown snow again, the glow of runes he knew would be their destination. Originally, I had wanted to try a sacrifice there, but with the air being more breathable here...he gave a light shrug, as he walked in a circle with his gaze fixed in search. Others have found similar, elsewhere. My cousin had been drawn to a structure in the desert south, same as we had hereIt was almost as if it was in sync. RE: (Bwp) Follow it - Wardruna - 10/27/2025 Wardruna nodded as she listened to her nephew, speaking of those in places far from here which were finding the same things. Her eyes continued seeking, her body whipping around in search. There had been many visions in her dreams. Many whispers of runes and artifacts and island guardians. Wardruna had not found any on her own yet. I have been visiting the territories around Northfall, for those who need respite from the plagued lands. They were all around and yet, Wardruna was unable to help any, she felt. At least not until Oberon. If Wardruna only saved but one from a horrible fate, where she was unable to save the ginger wolf, it was still enough. Still one life worth saving. I've not found any runes, but I found some sort of creature that looked like a plague in physical form. I've never seen something so hideous, so...She just couldn't put in into words that truly expressed. Suffocating. RE: (Bwp) Follow it - narrator - 10/31/2025 Rune Discovery : 「 Success pending! 」 Was the wind distracted? It had kissed both wolves before it took off, dancing with the snow, trying to entice them into searching further. It was a strange prospect that perhaps the world could be distracted from its mission. There was the sound far off - the echos rumbling from the thunder that shook the world. Come along, come along.....it's not far now! There was a break in a wall of ice, a cavern that expanded once you were further in. There was barely enough space for a wolf, but it was clear that this had once been something special. Perhaps this was a safe haven to escape a predator. Maybe this had been some sort of sacred space, in the light of the blood moon it was lit with an otherworldly glow. The wind stilled again, but the feeling of energy almost pulsing made it clear something was special about the little cavern. Deeper still, the eerie red glow seemed almost to light a path. In the back of the cavern, at the crux of jagged shards of ice, a faintly glowing rune pulsed in blue almost like a heartbeat. But would they find a way to free it? Could they? RE: (Bwp) Follow it - Vitus - 11/1/2025 Occultist The plague turned physical?Vitus questioned, eyebrows furrowing in thought. Could it be spoken with, then? Could it be summoned, like the thunder and wind here had been? Would he risk trying? Perhaps later, when he was alone again, he would not risk his aunt in something so foolish. Later he would chant again, sacrifice again, but later. Sharp eyes locked onto the crack in the ice, something drawing him in as the thunder echoed in the distance as if saying yes, there. There. He moved forward then, taking the lead quickly, if he could squeeze in then Wardruna would be able to as well after all. It gets bigger! He called back, squeezing to the side. The very air pulsed with a power, as if his own heart shifted to match with the rune. He was drawn in, then, moving to stand on his hind legs he balanced on the wall and pressed down on the rune to try and dislodge it. Claws scraping ice, trying to get a grip on the thing. RE: (Bwp) Follow it - Wardruna - 11/7/2025 Yes...The answer was a murmur on her lips. Quiet as though if she spoke of it too loudly, it might make the creature appear - like Candyman, Bloody Mary or oh - ! Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! The winter winds had carried them, the earth speaking to them in whisper with this wind and the rumble of thunder in the distance. Beckoning. And there, the red glow of the blood moon seemed to shine just so that it seemed to create a path towards a sliver of a crack in a thick wall of mountain ice. Wardruna's ears perked, olive eyes following the trace of Vitus own. Easily does the tall, thin build of her cousin slip in and Wardruna felt her heart pounding with hidden fear as she squeezed her way. Dying only lasted moments in battle. Dying like this? Stuck inbetween ice for weeks until you withered away? Fuck. Off. Hearing Vitus words, she grumbles and pushes further through the crevice. Loosened bits of ice scattering to the ground as she fell out onto the other side to where the cavern opened up. Another wall of ice was before them, fitted with jagged shards and at its center, a rune pulsing in blue glow. Wardruna felt the rhythm in her feet, in her heart. As Vitus, Wardruna began to dig with dull claws and using her paws to try and balance her weight on some of the lower shards to snap them off to create a larger area of flat surface to work with. How long would this take?? RE: (Bwp) Follow it - narrator - 11/14/2025 Rune Discovery : 「 Success - pending! 」 Oh - there they were! Again, the winds swept around their fur as they followed and followed and followed. He was determined enough to crawl and scrape and dig. And despite her reservations, she to found herself at the crux too. Both fought valiantly, clawing at the ice, scraping and scrambling about. The rune was pulsing in time, and each little chip of the ice almost sounded like a note as they bounced against the ice and stone. It swelled as they worked in tandem, a staccato, with the pulsing of the rune serving as the metronome. Thump, thump, thump ~ tink, creak, groan, CRACK.~ The process continued, and every little bit of ice they worked away seemed to only make it louder - until cracks began to form in the ice wall. It spread along the floor and ceiling, reaching in towards the runes. It was as if the cracks were racing the efforts of Northfall. Larger cracks gave way, the ice seeming to tremble with the efforts of holding everything together. Larger cracks opened, shards falling even from the ceiling. The risk was so great - but so was the reward. The rune slipped, it was almost free, just a bit more - but which would they choose? To stay and get the rune, or would they just flee before they were hurt? RE: (Bwp) Follow it - Vitus - 11/18/2025 Warrior He knows well the sound of ice about to collapse on itself, sparing a brief glance up at the roof of this crevasse as both he and his aunt fought with the ice to pry this rune loose. He almost had half a mind to stop, try licking the rune out of the ice instead, let the heat from his body melt it free rather than the ripping and tearing the pair of vikings were doing. The cracks were getting louder, making the seer growl in frustration when he noticed the breaks in the ice were getting bigger, closer. Get out Wardrunahe cautioned I've seen my future, I will live even if this hurts, but I don't want to risk you She, who he would back as Queen when they returned. Please RE: (Bwp) Follow it - Wardruna - 11/18/2025 skill: Soothsayer Dull wolven claws continued their work and even Wardruna would use her jaws where she could safely to bite and pull at a chunk to let it tumble and slid across the slick part of floor where the heat of their working bodies stood. In times Wardruna would shove hard into the wall with her shoulder and side to help loosen bits. Yet it became evidant that while it was working with time, it wasn't just the back wall they were breaking apart, but the ceiling of the very cavern which they stood in. Ice stalagmites falling amd crashing around them, causing Wardruna to jump in her place. Holy fuck, that one was close! So close, it caused a plea from the seer at her side. If she stayed here in this cave with him, they might both be crushed. Might even live, yet faced with being trapped and dying a far slower, more agonizing death there after. Wardruna, like Vitus, like all of her family (at least spoken allowed, if not truly) did not fear death. For death was one which only extended this life here. Vitus knew this, surely, but it was not their very own selves which they thought of now. Wardruna did not want to cause her people (what was left of them) to suffer because of her stubbornness to stand at her nephew's side. I - but...Her voice trailing off as the please comes from Vitus then. According to him, the seer had a glimpse into his future. Knew that today was not the day he died. Of course, he could have been lying but what was the point of a Seer which you could not trust his word for, when it was he you went to for questoons of the gods, of the future, of fate? Okay. She would say then with a reluctantance and made way to the slice of opening where she could shimmy herself back out into the open tundra. |
