He seemed kind and in her naivety she saw nothing but kindness. Perhaps that is all there was. Goldie had not yet felt the bite of someone acting one way, but being another.

She blinked at his colorful language. She had heard much more besides. Sometimes mothers grew very angry when birthing their children. And with tightening contractions, they developed looser tongues. But it always took her by surprise.

Is that your village? Norn?

She smiled. My mother and I always bless children as well. Whisper good tidings in their tiny ears.

Her words were unknowing, and he found it somewhat endearing in that he could show her his ways if she were willing to hear. With that same smile, he shook his head, folding his hind legs beneath him as he settled into a sit.

No, the Norn are like goddesses to all who look up to Asgard; they represent the past, present, and future. They witness every birth and gift you your fate. he thought of Urdr for a moment, but the image of the norn was passing in his mind. He daren't linger.

Your mother sounds like a wonderful woman, he offered warmly, because she truly did. The woman had raised this girl to be kind-hearted, and that was rarely seen in those gifted with life. It was too common for folks to be soured by their experiences, not that he could speak when there was a bitterness within him, the god of war.

Goldie may not follow a said religion. She may not believe the same way someone else did. But she felt it was her job as a midwife to know many beliefs. So that a mother could feel comforted in their time of need. To know someone would pray to their gods for them if they couldn't. Because she was too taken in birth pains. She felt like it meant something. But perhaps that was foolhardy. Mayhap someone thought it a heresy and discourteous.

She settled more firmly in her seat. Body relaxed. And waited. Is it always a gift?

She had know a few like her mothers first husband. A horrible awful wolf who treated his wife as if she were worthless. Hurt and maimed her. Her mother did not deserve that fate.

A genuinely bright smile lit her face. She has taught me all I know of such things. Herbs and plants. How to calm a mother and more besides. And she is selfless. My mother did not have an easy early life, but it didn't change her heart. Only bent her spirit a little

Was it always a gift?

Tyr felt his smile crack as he cast his eyes aside. A hard question to think about, because he always found himself thinking of his children in this life and his first. The god swallowed, redirecting his gaze back to the woman with a small shake. Not always, the Norn tell you your lifeline. It could be near or far, he offered with a gentleness to his northern tongue.

You can give them offerings to hope they change it, but often the price is dear,

His religion was not for the softhearted, nor were the gods immortal. Everyone had a lifeline, they just didn't always know how short it was. His ears cupped to her words intently, listening to the woman speak of her mother fondly.

She was strong. his response was simple, but it carried weight. To be unyielding to life's woes was to be stronger than many, if not all. She was a fine woman indeed.

A melancholy air stole over the man. And Goldie was horrified that she had been the cause. But before she could speak, and apologize he continued. And she listened.

She frowned in thought and then spoke. I can't boast much knowledge with the realms of the gods. But.

She tapped her paw, thinking through how to speak her truths. I believe the short lives are just as much a blessing. They have done what they needed no matter how short their life is. I refuse to attribute their resting to a horror. No. They were here whether to touch the heart of another, or perhaps they were so infinitely good the gods couldn't bear to see them suffer or be without them. Life and death as hard as they both are. They are blessings, tiny sometimes dark little blessings.

She tilted her head. though it is hard to accept everything has a reason. And often when one tries to take away nothing from their lesson. It can be dire. This I understand.

A nod. that she is
