As time passed, the sting lessened. But it did not go away — no, it deepened. The pain of loss settled into his bones, causing a heaviness within him that would weight him down by his feet. It was a strange feeling ... almots ... like he was trapped in this body. He hadn't felt like himself lately; but he would put on smiles and a show for those that passed by.
He could not help, sometimes, to wonder if he was a curse. And not just upon this plane, but upon every plane he'd existed in prior. Perhaps there was a reason he had previously been an emotionless snake — perhaps it was but a defense mechanism to soften the feeling of mourning and loss.
Everyone seemed to drift from him.
Even his soul-bound had drifted away.
Everyone ...
... all but Pasi.
And so, when the pink sunrise stirred him, he would seek her comfort. The man would lift himself, pulling forth from the mouth of his beachside den and blinking into the air that was ... far too pink, even for sunrise. Makara would hum, nostrils flaring as the overwhelming scent of floral rose surrounded him. And he inhaled deeply, closing his eyes as relaxation cascaded through his tense muscles.
He would follow, deep into the heartlands of the Cosmic Isle, chasing the saline and floral scent of Pasithea as he wove through the rosy mist. Eventually, he would reach the pond, his eyes blinking a few times in disbelief as he noticed the change — the pond was huge, dotted with massive lily pads.
Pasi had already found the playground, her smaller body darting daringly across the abnormal flora with a few chiming laughs. Makara would smile, a smile that warmed him from his depths as he neared the edge of the pond to watch her dance. He could almost see the trails she left in her wake, her smaller body trapezing through the heavy, rose-colored tint that hovered over him.
Was he ... dreaming?
