Second Mass Dream: The Gathering

Those of you that have resisted the urge to stay within the status infected zones are now safely resting somewhere. Your mind may race with questions and endless curiosity. How does the Visitor expect you to meet him in your dreams when you're still thinking about those weird chants and glowing words? What was all of that? You want to sleep. You want to hear what he has to say, you want to understand what’s happening and why you felt so miserable earlier. What was happening within Mythris?

Sleep, a hushed word spoken by the Visitor. Before you can say or think anything, your eyes close and you fall into a deep slumber by his command. The world around you is nothing but an abyss of black, you are only able to hear the beat of your own heart. Confusion riddles you, uncertain of whether you should call out or simply wait for the visitor to materialize before you.

Soon you see a faint, blue glow in the distance. You feel the undeniable urge to approach it, and as you do, you hear the strange language again. This time he’s saying much more than he’s initially read to you. Ut sepal kina ali eaken, ut sepal kina ali fulfin dre krokhecyl fir lith eipal hale satificil iarsellal fir.  Fir dre wolf’al life sepil gilen fir yiar tuan.

Dre derdrer shienal retorned, laba conseshezje fier dre wolf’al thace fir tsad, eipal wit ali remedyl ozje aln fir lab.

Eaken aln antsir iar klus, eaken ali walk dre wolf’al kadr ali sale drial wirlk lith eipal hale kasonil widr iar selfit natore

Eipal lab drat yia od shiel lanshitind dre wolf’al kon, fir dre sake fier iar kin bodr dud aln lilind.

Antsir iar canind, od iar giordein, krelelk laba rekut fier hikiryl.  Af an anie dre wolf’al lor, agon,
The gusto with which he was chanting sounded as if he was casting some type of spell or curse, but you are mostly unfazed as you continue towards the blue glow. Suddenly the gentle light flashes brightly, it’s so intense you close your eyes tightly. As you gradually reopen them, you’re seated within an open meadow, however, you are far from alone. To your left and right are others, seated in a large circle, looking just as confused and curious as yourself.

Ut sepal kina ali eaken, ut sepal kina ali fulfin dre krokhecyl fir lith eipal hale satificil iarsellal fir.  Fir dre wolf’al life sepil gilen fir yiar tuan.

Dre derdrer shienal retorned, laba conseshezje fier dre wolf’al thace fir tsad, eipal wit ali remedyl ozje aln fir lab.

You all stare at the center where the Dream Visitor now stands, his chanting still on going. As he begins to repeat it a third time, you realize you can now understand the words.

It is time to awaken, it is time to fulfill the prophecy for which we have sacrificed ourselves for. For the Wolf’s Life was given for your creation. as you register the words, images flash in your mind. A pyramid surrounded by burning sands, and within its dark halls a brightly glowing scripture. You see wolves there, actively discovering it, just as you discovered yours. You also notice they are seated in the circle.

The darkness has returned, a consequence of the Wolf’s Choice for greed, we wish to remedy it once and for all. The pyramid fades from your mind and is replaced with a lake of thick, purple ooze. A nearby waterfall—or what was a waterfall—has similar engravings to the ones from the pyramid. They shine brightly and a group of wolves seem to inspect it, just as before, these individuals are present.

Awaken and answer our pleas, awaken to walk the Wolf’s Path to save this world which we have poisoned with our selfish nature. A flurry of faintly purple snow takes over the vision, trading the sludge filled lake for a cloud-touching peak. The vision travels into a cavern, ending in a corridor lit up by blue markings carved into the wall. You witness a group of wolves approach the words, recognizing them as some of the ones seated here.

Is this what he meant by “we”? Was everyone present involved with a discovery?

We ask that you aid in vanquishing the Wolf’s Pain for the sake of our kin, both dead and living. Icy caverns morph into age-old stone, long since laden with moss and erosion from the disasters it has faced since its building. Large tree roots sprawl across the ground and wrap possessively around the ruins of old. It takes only a moment for the area to be gassed with a green fog, and from within a dim blue light. The vision follows a group of wolves as they close in on the glowing engravings within a paver.

Answer our calling, aid our Guardian, prevent a repeat of history. Do not allow the Wolf’s Loss, again. A new vision: The final group stands within a meadow, staring at an old wooden house that creaks in the wind. It’s strange, you can almost feel the unadulterated aggression they were burdened with. Blood stains the grass, but it is unclear if it was a result of the present wolves or another animal. Blue words shone brightly from an old floor board, easily calling attention to itself.

Your mind empties, there are no more visions and no more missing pieces of this so-called incantation. You look around once more, confirming that everyone present was involved with finding these strange markings. But what do they mean? What was he trying to summon and why was he asking for help?

Thanks to the souls sitting here, I have been able to awaken the Mythrasi Runes. There is much you do not know, and I will do my best to guide you, for if you fail, this world will cease to exist. Part of you assumes it’s some stage joke, but you can sense the tension, even in this dreamland.

Wolves were of the first animals to arrive in Mythris. With our exploration of our new home, we discovered something powerful, something we would prove to be undeserving of; magic. It was free and able to be wielded, though it consumed us. Our greed and selfishness tainted the magic of Mythris and turned it into a corrupted source of energy, his voice trails off as he looks at each face circled around him.

The land grew angry with us, and so Mythris decided to fight back and cull the source of its poison: wolves. We destroyed our home, we destroyed ourselves, we destroyed everything we held dear. The corruption seeped into our loved ones, turning them into unrecognizable beasts and siphoning their life source away. The man’s head falls in disgrace, a painful vision of scaly, lizard-like wolves that have long since withered to skin and bone fills your mind. It was clear they suffered in their final moments.

Those of us that maintained our sanity pooled the remaining, stable magic together and created the Moving Isle. They are a guardian of this world, meant to travel to absorb the corruption and seal it away for eternity. Once they fell into their slumber, that was meant to be the end of it. The poison was supposed to remain sealed, but trace amounts of magic have been leaking into Mythris, Come to think of it, there have been a lot of strange, unexplained things that have happened against all logic. Was it truly magic seeping into the world?

The world is angry. Wolves have returned to Mythris after thousands of years and it fears a repeat of history. It is eager to cull the cause of pain before it gets out of hand once more. This has caused the corrupted magic to grow restless, ultimately wearing down and waking the guardian. We knew we needed to take precautionary measures. The remaining wolves sacrificed themselves to create the incantation, the runes, and finally, the artifacts. When the Moving Isle woke up, it triggered the fail safe. I was summoned to aid the latest generation in their journey, Once again he sends images into your mind, stones covered in the same strange markings you have all recently found. They range in size, color, and texture, nothing more than normal rocks with symbols carved into them.

You must go in search of the runes, as you find them I will come and activate them with you. After multiple runes are discovered, they will trigger an artifact to appear. It is the artifacts that will strengthen the guardian and recapture the corruption.

You ended up getting a history lesson you didn’t sign up for, and it wasn’t as cut and dry as one would have hoped. Magic, corruption, curses, beasts, death. The world wants to kill you and your kind, and you’re somehow meant to fix it all? Can’t he just tell you where to go? Why couldn’t he activate the runes himself if he was so knowledgeable about the whole thing? Did this mean you have to sacrifice yourself to save the world?

As if reading your mind, he answers. The rune locations are unknown even to me. I can sense them when you are close to one, but that is all. It is with the purpose of preventing one of the founders attempting to resurrect themselves using the sacrifices of the others. It must be you that searches. Call out for me, within your mind, and I will answer swiftly.

You have all seen the lands be plagued, attempting to lure you in or trap you. You must not yield to it. Remaining in these areas will gradually drain your life. The longer you stay, it will become impossible to save you. It is spreading slowly, so we must act with haste. Mythris is willing to destroy itself if it means culling all wolves. There is an old legend that half of this land is actually underwater, sunken in a previous attempt to cull a species. It will not stop. I will rely on you to find the runes, and I will notify all life in Mythris to avoid plagued lands. the Visitor fades away before your eyes, and then all the others do, as well. So much has just happened, it may take some time to wrap your head around it but it may be a good idea to begin your search for runes soon…

HOW TO FIND RUNES AND FURTHER THE STORY
Only those that participated in the previous Narrator threads will have the Mass Dream above, those that did not join the previous threads will see clips of the mass dream, such as the Visitor explaining the history of Mythris. Those that did not join the narrator threads will not know of the incantations, runes, or artifacts (but keep reading! There is still a chance for you to join the search!)

• Create a thread in any area you wish to search for a rune, comment the link below.
• Staff will roll dice to see if you have successfully found a rune. Runes can be found in any subarea!
• Based on the number rolled, the Dream Visitor will answer your summons and notify you if you found a rune, are within the vicinity of one, or are not close to one.
• Only those that participated in the previous Narrator threads may summon the Dream Visitor at will.
• If you have not participated in the previous threads then your character will not know about the runes unless specifically told by a character that was present in the mass dream.
You may still look for runes without knowing what they are!! - You may post a thread in any area and link it in a comment below. While you cannot actively search since you do not know what to find, there is still a chance you can stumble across one while doing an everyday activity!
• Staff will roll the dice (those that do not know what runes are will have a lower percent chance of finding them). If you are successful, the Dream Visitor will appear in your mind and explain what runes are. If you are unsuccessful, you will proceed as usual with no intervention, since you do not yet have a connection to the Dream Visitor.
• If a Rune roll is successful and no reply is made within 10 days of the last post prior to the character(s) finding and activating it, the Rune deactivates and relocates somewhere else within Mythris, becoming discoverable to the public once more.

As runes are discovered, the Dream Visitor will notify all individuals he is linked to.

THE PLAGUE - Plague locations updated May 23rd

The plague will gradually spread to new areas. Every single individual will be warned by the Dream Visitor that these areas are not safe to venture. Of course it is up to your character’s own discretion if they wish to heed these warnings.

• Entering a zone for a minimal amount of time can impact you both physically and mentally, depending on the plague that infects it. The effects often cause you to lose your better judgment and may cause you to remain longer, which can lead to long lasting effects or even death.
• If you wish to have long lasting effects or death, link the thread below and you will come face to face with the corrupted Magic’s personification of The Plague.

REWARDS
As artifacts are activated, they may also trigger some magical rewards. These rewards are signs and signals that you are moving in the right direction. The remaining pure magic that has been infused in the artifacts seems to be aiding you in your journey!

May 23rd - Magic Tunnels
One mysterious tunnel appears near the center of each main area: Northern Alpines, Spirited Highlands, Great Woodland, Westmoor Wakes, Smoldering Wastes, Primal Savannah, and even one on the Moving Isle. You soon notice these tunnels emit glowing particles that look similar to fireflies. They drift away and then fade into nothing as they get too far from the tunnel’s entrance. If you’re brave enough to explore its depths, you will learn it’s seemingly endless, but you feel compelled to keep going, as if turning around isn’t an option.

One day of travel in the tunnel will transport you to any of the other six tunnels, including the Moving Isle. You’re unsure how, but the tunnel somehow always knows where you wish to go or where you should be.

October 5th - Reprieve
The plague seems to have lifted, and in its place, an eerie fog persists over the land of Mythris. While previously-uninhabitable areas are now safe for travel, direct and prolonged exposure to affected areas will still produce ill side effects over time.
