Her bubble of fleeting solitude was popped suddenly as a voice garnered her attention. Ears pressed forward lazily, she turned to address the boy who was dressed in the night sky's colors. She wondered fancifully for a moment if he had been pulled from it - he looked just like the sky above Fateweaver's Field when her mathair had taken her to stargaze.
Save for the small snip of gold on his nose - a falling star, she reasoned - he was a swath of star-studded sky made into the shape of a canine.
It was unusual, to say the least, but her fascination with the living world and its many wonders distracted her from his words until his eyes widened and his question finally registered.
The evidence of her berry-colored sins were no easier scrubbed away than the fawn spots on Aisling's back, and she was suddenly distinctly aware of their existence. As if she could invoke the infantile lack of object permanence by simply removing her stained paws from view, she wiggled her toes deeper into the grass until she could feel earth cake beneath her nails.
Silver-lilac eyes stared owlishly at Sverke as her mouth hung open an inch, her tongue unprepared to offer any sort of excuse for the complete absence of berries.
Oh- I-she tried to conjure something to say, only for her uncle to appear on the scene. Perhaps because they knew one another, he was far quicker to admonish her for her overindulgence. Her brows pinched and her jaws clicked shut with a pout, ears tugged back.
It was not until he threatened to tattle that her pitiful expression grew into one of alarm.
No! Don't do that!she pled swiftly.
I can find more-
Her gaze slid to the empty space where berries once were, only smudged stains remaining to tell they had ever existed.
Guilt surged to the surface along with the panic. She didn't want to ruin the party - everyone had worked so hard to make it happen. After this faux pas, she would have to learn moderation and self-control when it came to berries. Why were they so delicious if she was not meant to eat every single one she encountered?
Th' mushrooms are good,Aisling offered, splotchy paw pressing some of the fragrant fungi toward the two boys.
They're not berries, but...
