SKILL : GUARDIAN ( 1 / 5 )

His name on the wind, from a voice steadily growing more known to him, brought Shiloh to a halt and dragged him from his thoughts.

White-tipped ears cupped toward the source: his youngest brother. Notably not glued to their mother's side, he mentally added.

I could say th' same t'ye, deartháir beag , Shiloh returned his inquiry with one of his own, scarred brow raised faintly and a crooked tilt of his lips. Mathair will skin us both if ye get lost out here.

Truth be told, he was pleased to see Lugh finding his own boundaries. He could not live at Epona's apron skirt forever - this world, or the last, would tear him from it eventually.

I was checkin' th' borders for signs o' those runes everyone is talkin' about, he added, answering Lugh's question. Haven't-

His words were cut short as a deluge of whispers infiltrated his mind unbidden. Shiloh winced, ears flattening until the discordant fabric of voices distilled into a single one on the heels of a small stretch of silence. It felt almost like relief, but it was short-lived.

The voice urged them on, indicating they were close... Close to what, precisely? Stormy hues turned to Lugh and then to the world around them, as though he might visually lay eyes upon the source of it all.

But there was no one but the two of them within the in-between of meadow and forest.

Save for, of course, a cloud of fireflies further up the trail. Shiloh counted the pulses of their shimmering light, but he was unsure if there was any meaning to be scraped from it.

What he did know, however, was that Lugh was not going back home to their mother just yet. He was not about to leave his youngest brother to the mercy of whatever lay in store.

Ye heard th' voice, let's get goin', Shiloh pressed, feeling safe in assuming Lugh had also heard it. The voice had spoken to all of them before, it did not seem unlikely the same would happen here.

The lion stepped ahead of his younger brother, taking the place of watchful sentinel as he picked a path to follow where the fireflies had faded away.
