Almost immediately, Euphemia felt as if she was meddling in things far outside of her realm. She didn’t want to cast a pall over any potential relationship between the two packs by casting doubt over the herds, and in some way, she felt she had – maybe it was that Nottin hadn’t had similar wonderings (and instead considered the matter quite resolute) that made her feel as though she was mining a problem where there, perhaps, wasn’t one.

Wouldn’t be the first time.

Nottin posited several hypothetical questions, which Euphemia deigned to answer anyways. No, I don’t think so. she clarified, attempting to temper the reaction from the pillar. After all, it didn’t make sense to lay claim to something that moved as did the fog across the rolling hills. One of Saatsine, Iglux, suggested that we hunt together.

The maiden wanted to add how nice Iglux was, and how she made Euphemia feel seen, but in the end, she said nothing of the sort. Nottin’s subsequent suggestion of visiting their caribou hunter neighbors did much to quell Euphemia’s anxieties. Yes, that was it! Simple diplomacy, cut and dried. Euphemia nodded astutely.

Can I come with you? she asked, still looking out at the moving brown hides, a sea of animals with currents all its own.
