"You do not need to apologize to me." Eloise briskly brushed off his apology, sighing heavily as her eyes closed and a paw rested against her forehead. Embarrasment — she could feel it in her warming cheeks. A bit of a late reaction to have, and she was suprised that she was still able to feel it when all pride had been stripped of her, but here she was. To think that she'd grown out of her impusitivity.
Lifting her head, her weary olive gaze shifted back towards him. His words and his voice — one was as soothing as the other one was gentle. It was not often that she'd run into such benevolent strangers, but when she had, their faces were never forgotten. "I am surprised you've even stayed to comfort this miserable woman. Most wouldn't have had the energy to put up with me for this long. Yet, as she already observed, he was a good man. Her eyes wandered, and a soft, tentative smile came upon her lips. "I would like for my pain to go on for a little longer, lest I forget why I'm mourning, if you wouldn't mind." She did not need medicine —
— but she did need some company. At least, for the present.
"Eloise." She'd offer a name, and awaited his own.
