“A kingdom is not proven by the height of its walls, but by who is allowed to rise within them.”

Welcome to Eastrenhold, a northern-inspired kingdom ruled by Queen Vidalia and Ser Raelan. This is a court for the displaced, the ambitious, the loyal, the wounded, and the worthy. Whether noble-born, common-born, wanderer, soldier, healer, craftsman, hunter, scholar, orphan, exile, or former servant, all may be given a chance to rise here.

Eastrenhold believes that a kingdom is strongest when every subject is given the opportunity to become more than what the world first named them. Those who seek shelter will be fed. Those who seek work will be offered work. Those who seek family may find it. And those who seek power must prove they can wield it without cruelty.

The crown offers mercy, protection, purpose, and a place beside the hearth. In return, Eastrenhold asks for loyalty, contribution, honesty, and respect for its laws.

1. The Crown’s Peace Must Be Kept
No member may attack, threaten, or harm another subject of Eastrenhold without lawful cause. Disputes must be brought before the proper authority.

2. Guest-Right Is Sacred
Any guest formally welcomed beneath Eastrenhold’s protection may not be harmed, hunted, poisoned, ambushed, or betrayed. To violate guest-right is one of the gravest crimes in the kingdom. If guest-right is granted, they are owed food, water, and safety.  In return, the guest must not harm, steal, spy, threaten, or bring violence under the roof.

3. Birth Does Not Place One Above the Law
Nobles, knights, commonfolk, council members, and royal kin are all subject to the laws of Eastrenhold.

4. Service Determines Station
Ranks must be earned through loyalty, skill, contribution, and conduct. Noble birth may be honored, but it does not guarantee authority.

5. The Vulnerable Are Under the Crown’s Protection
Children, elders, the injured, the ill, refugees, wards, and guests are to be protected. Abuse or exploitation of the vulnerable is punished harshly.

6. No Subject Shall Be Denied Honest Work
Every able member is expected to contribute. In return, the kingdom must provide opportunities for members to learn, serve, and rise.

7. Theft from the Hearth Is Theft from the Kingdom
Food stores, medical supplies, winter provisions, and communal resources are protected. Theft from these stores endangers all and is treated seriously.

8. No Blood Feud May Override the Crown’s Law
Personal vengeance cannot spill freely within Eastrenhold. Those with grievances must bring them before the crown or Master of Laws.

9. Treason Is Met with Iron
Betrayal of the kingdom, conspiracy against the crown, aiding enemies, or endangering Eastrenhold’s people may result in imprisonment, exile, maiming, or death depending on severity.

10. Mercy May Be Granted Once
Eastrenhold believes in second chances. However, repeated offenses, false repentance, or abuse of the crown’s mercy will be answered with harsher judgment.

11. The Dead Must Be Preserved
The bodies and memories of the dead are to be treated with respect. Desecration of graves, remains, or mourning rites is forbidden.

12. The Land Must Be Honored
The old trees, sacred stones, nesting birds, clean waters, and ritual places of Eastrenhold are not to be needlessly destroyed.

13. Children Are Not Political Tools
The crown may arrange mentorships, wards, or noble fostering, but children are not to be abused, traded, threatened, or used as punishment for the crimes of their parents.

14. Outsiders May Be Judged by Deed, Not Origin
Foreigners, exiles, and strangers may earn a place in Eastrenhold. Suspicion is permitted; cruelty without cause is not.

15. The Crown’s Judgment Is Final
Appeals may be heard and counsel may be given, but once the Queen and Lord Commander have rendered final judgment, it must be obeyed.

16. The Law of Sanctuary
Those fleeing abuse, forced marriage, wrongful punishment, war, or persecution may petition for sanctuary. Sanctuary is not automatic, but once granted, the Hold defends that soul as its own.

17. Oaths are Sacred
Oaths are binding when given freely. Oaths made under threat, blackmail, abuse, or coercion are considered broken before they are ever spoken. Breaking a lawful oath is considered sacrilegious and will be met with a fitting punishment. Oaths are never to be given lightly.

18. Marriage is for Love
Courtship and mateship must be freely chosen. Political unions may be suggested, but never forced.

"A home where mercy is not a pretty word spoken after blood has already been spilled, but where those who come wounded may mend, and those born low may still rise if their hearts prove worthy."

Eastrenhold is built upon the belief that mercy and strength are not opposites.

Vidalia and Raelan have both known the harm of rulers who used power selfishly. Because of this, Eastrenhold does not seek to become another court where only the noble are heard, and only the powerful are protected. Their kingdom is intended to prosper through opportunity, loyalty, and justice rather than fear alone.

However, mercy in Eastrenhold is not blind. The crown may forgive mistakes, poverty, fear, ignorance, or desperation — but it will not excuse betrayal, abuse, cruelty, or harm done to the vulnerable.

There is a place for everyone within the Hold.

QUEEN
The Queen is the heart and sovereign voice of Eastrenhold. She oversees diplomacy, law, court culture, internal welfare, spiritual custom, and the long-term vision of the kingdom. Her word carries the highest authority, though wise counsel is expected and encouraged. The Queen is not merely ornamental like so many other Kingdoms. She may judge disputes, elevate subjects, negotiate treaties, issue pardons, approve punishments, and determine the moral direction of the realm.

Her rule is expected to embody mercy, dignity, restraint, and justice.

KING
The King stands as sovereign beside the Queen and serves as protector of the realm, guardian of its people, and co-ruler of Eastrenhold. While the Queen guides the kingdom's heart, the King serves as its shield and sword. The King oversees defense, military readiness, border security, diplomacy involving war or alliance, and the protection of the royal family. He may command armies, pass judgment on matters of treason or warfare, and act with the full authority of the Crown. Though capable of great force, the King is expected to wield power with restraint, honor, and loyalty to the people he serves.

Together, the King and Queen rule as equal partners. Neither stands above the other; rather, they form the two pillars upon which Eastrenhold rests.

CROWN PRINCE
The eldest son of the reigning monarchs and first in the line of succession unless otherwise decreed by the Crown. The Crown Prince is raised from birth to understand governance, diplomacy, law, warfare, and service. He is expected to spend time among both nobles and commonfolk so that he may understand the kingdom he will one day inherit. Eastrenhold values bloodline, but it does not worship it blindly. An heir must be taught service, law, mercy, and restraint before they are trusted with power.

The title carries privilege, but also immense responsibility.

CROWN PRINCESS
The eldest daughter of the reigning monarchs and a direct heir of the royal line. A Crown Princess is educated in leadership, diplomacy, governance, history, and stewardship of the realm. She may serve as a royal ambassador, advisor, regent, or ruler in her own right depending upon circumstance. Eastrenhold values bloodline, but it does not worship it blindly. An heir must be taught service, law, mercy, and restraint before they are trusted with power.

Eastrenhold does not consider daughters lesser heirs than sons.

PRINCE
A son of the royal family who is not currently first in line to inherit the throne. Princes often pursue roles as diplomats, knights, commanders, explorers, scholars, or council members. They are expected to contribute meaningfully to the kingdom rather than simply enjoy royal privilege.

PRINCESS
A daughter of the royal family who is not currently first in line to inherit the throne. Princesses may serve as diplomats, advisors, spiritual leaders, patrons of the arts, scholars, healers, or rulers of their own holdings under the Crown.

Eastrenhold values capability above outdated traditions of gender or birth order.

ROYAL CONSORT
Should a future Prince or Princess marry before inheriting, their spouse receives the title of Royal Consort until succession occurs. Consorts are respected members of the royal household but do not automatically inherit governing authority.

LORD COMMANDER
Raelan serves as the kingdom’s military arm, protector of the crown, and commander of Eastrenhold’s defenses. He oversees knights, guards, patrols, border security, military training, and emergency responses. He may also act as judge in matters of violence, treason, or wartime conduct.

The Lord Commander is expected to protect the kingdom without becoming cruel, and to wield strength only in service of the realm.

HIGH COUNCIL
The High Council advises the crown and helps govern the kingdom. Council positions are earned through trust, skill, and loyalty rather than birth alone.

THE SENESCHAL
The chief advisor and second voice of governance beneath the Queen, King, and Lord Commander. The Seneschal may oversee court sessions, settle lesser disputes, organize council meetings, and speak with authority when the crown is absent.

MASTER OF LAWS
Responsible for interpreting, recording, and enforcing the laws of Eastrenhold. They oversee trials, disputes, punishments, pardons, and legal oaths.

MASTER OF TRADE
Oversees trade, supplies, treasures, stored resources, barter, tribute, and distribution of goods. They ensure the kingdom prospers without hoarding wealth only for the elite. Also responsible for messages, diplomacy, envoys, treaties, border notices, and communication between allied or neighboring groups.

MASTER OF HEARTH
Oversees food stores, dens, shelters, communal warmth, orphan care, guest lodging, and aid for the sick, elderly, young, or displaced.

MASTER OF WHISPERS
Oversees information, scouts, rumors, discreet investigations, and possible threats inside or outside the kingdom. This rank requires subtlety, loyalty, and restraint.

HIGH GODLING
The leading spiritual advisor of Eastrenhold. They oversee rites, omens, funerals, weddings, blessings, seasonal ceremonies, and the honoring of old gods and spirits of place.

CROWN PHYSICIAN
The Royal Physician is the highest-ranking healer in Eastrenhold and serves as the personal physician to the royal family, High Council, and those under the Crown’s direct protection. They oversee medical care within the kingdom, supervise healers and apprentices, manage healing stores, advise the Crown during illness, pregnancy, injury, plague, famine, or crisis, and may be called to examine prisoners, refugees, or guests when health concerns arise. Because of their closeness to the royal family, the Royal Physician must be deeply trusted. They may hold private knowledge of births, bloodlines, illnesses, wounds, weaknesses, and secrets that could endanger the Crown if placed in the wrong paws.

HIGH SCRIBE
Keeper of records, laws, bloodlines, histories, treaties, births, deaths, marriages, and oaths. Often a tutor for the Princes, Princesses, and Wards of the Kingdom.

NOBILITY & COURT TITLES
Noble titles in Eastrenhold may be inherited, granted, or earned through exceptional service. However, nobility does not place someone above the law.

LORD / LADY
A high-ranking noble or trusted subject granted authority over a specific duty, household, region, or court function. Lords and Ladies may advise the crown, mentor younger members, or oversee important projects.

THANE
A martial noble title granted to those who have defended Eastrenhold with exceptional loyalty. Thanes may command small forces, oversee outposts, or hold lands/dens in the crown’s name.

STEWARD
A trusted organizer responsible for daily operations, records, stores, housing, work assignments, and coordination between ranks.

COURTIER
Members of the royal court who serve through diplomacy, artistry, etiquette, negotiation, scholarship, spiritual work, or political influence. Courtiers are expected to uphold Eastrenhold’s dignity.

WARD OF THE CROWN
A youth, displaced noble, orphan, hostage-turned-protectorate, or vulnerable individual taken under the protection of the crown. Wards are educated, sheltered, and raised with care.

MARTIAL RANKS
Militarized titles and honors given to those who have shown allegiance to the crown, who have taken an oath of loyalty to serve the crown and the realm with integrity and honesty.

KNIGHT OF EASTRENHOLD
A sworn protector of the kingdom. Knights are expected to embody courage, loyalty, discipline, and mercy. They defend the crown, protect subjects, escort travelers, and uphold the law.

Knighthood may be granted regardless of birth.

SWORN SWORD
A personal guard assigned to protect a member of the crown, council, or a vulnerable subject. Sworn Swords must be disciplined, vigilant, and deeply loyal.

IRON GUARD
The main defensive force of Eastrenhold. They patrol borders, guard the castle, respond to threats, and enforce the crown’s protection.

RANGER
Scouts and wilderness guardians who patrol forests, cliffs, borders, ruins, and coastal paths. Rangers are often the first to notice danger.

ARMSMAN / SHIELDBEARER
Soldiers-in-training or lower-ranking defenders who assist guards and knights while learning combat, patrol, and discipline.

COMMON & SKILLED RANKS
A collection of ranks that are integral to the functioning of the kingdom, given to those who have shown an affinity for certain jobs. Without them, the kingdom would not function.

HEARTHKEEPER
Caretakers of dens, food, fire, children, elders, guests, and injured members. This is a deeply respected rank, as Eastrenhold considers the hearth sacred.

HUNTER
Responsible for providing food, tracking prey, organizing hunts, and teaching younger members survival skills.

FISHER
Specialists in coastal or river food-gathering, tide knowledge, water safety, and preserving fish for winter stores.

HEALER
Medical workers who treat wounds, illness, pregnancy, birth, trauma, and long-term recovery. Healers may also work closely with Godlings when spiritual comfort is needed.

SCHOLAR
Keepers of history, law, language, maps, family lines, treaties, stories, and records. Scholars may teach youth or advise the court.

ARTISAN
Craftspeople who make useful or ceremonial objects: ornaments, cloaks, den linings, carved tokens, bone jewelry, ritual items, dyes, tools, and decorations.

MASON
Builders and repairers of the old castle, dens, walls, paths, shelters, and stoneworks. Masons are vital to Eastrenhold’s restoration.

TRADER
Members trusted to barter with outsiders, gather resources, negotiate exchanges, and bring useful goods into the kingdom.

SHEPHERD
Caretakers and teachers of pups, youths, or newly joined members. They help guide the vulnerable into kingdom life.

COMMONFOLK
The backbone of Eastrenhold. Commonfolk may serve in many ways and are not considered lesser. A common-born member may rise into skilled, martial, noble, or council ranks through loyalty and contribution.

YOUTH RANKS
The titles and honors given to children within the realm as they work toward a skillset that align with their strengths.

NOBLE PUP
A child of noble or titled members of the Hold.

PAGE
A youth beginning early training in service, etiquette, history, messages, or household tasks.

SQUIRE
A youth or young adult training in warfare directly beneath a knight. They tend to their master’s tasks and fight alongside him in battle.

APPRENTICE
A youth learning a trade such as healing, hunting, masonry, spiritual rites, trade, scholarship, or craft.
