All he could think about was the threat of his teeth ... the delicate curve of her throat. All he could imagine was the thrum of her pulse against his fangs. It awakened something primal, the feral expanse of his mind writhing and rattling against the bars of his chest.

The 'monster'.

He could release it.

He could practically imagine what she tasted like.

He should release it.

He'd warned her.

And all she did was meet him with a firm "No." It was a blatant dismissal of his threat — his threat, which had been an act of mercy. And Draugur's snarl reverberated within his throat, his nape bristling because the words did not stop pouring from her lips. Useless words from a useless ghost that should move onward with her life. Move forward and away from a Revenant that sought to find a feast in the rage of his past.

Draugur was naught but a horrible, haunting spirit, so tormented that perhaps even the release of death would not relinquish his soul from the self-induced suffering it incurred.

She laughed, but he found none of this funny.

"You don't get to decide for me that I'm better off without you, no one gets to decide for me — not anymore."

His lip lifted wickedly, a snarl so cold it held that same burn as a raging sun. But there was ice where fire should have brewed. Don't be stupid, he rumbled, words as harsh as a winter freeze.  You've known from the beginning what we are. All of us. They were Drazens. Monsters. All of them, in one way or another. And all they ever knew how to do was leave. And lose. And destroy.

Oniria knew this, and yet she stood in his way.

Draugur matched her steps, the two apparitions once more face to face. He knew he couldn't decide anything for her. Nor did he want to. He barely wanted to decide this for himself.

There was a pause.

Draugur's lip fell, a snarl running cold as the emotion drained from his face.

If you won't fuck off, I will.

He was tired of this. Of seeing his past written all over her face. Of the threat of luring her back to a danger she did not deserve. She'd run free once, and she should do it again. She needed to do it again. She needed to disappear again.

Draugur moved forward again, throwing his shoulder against Oniria's in an attempt to move her out of the way with a less-than-delicate shove. As he kept walking, Draugur's ears flattened, as if in an attempt to drown out any more of the words she had to say. The rattle of the beast grew louder against caged ears, screaming at him. His heart thrummed in his chest, a violence that he shoved even deeper down in an effort to protect her from himself.

Oni.
