Something lived in the lake; something large, green, and apparently clever enough to know when it wasn't being watched. That was really all he'd needed to say before curiosity took hold, brightening her expression as her attention wandered instinctively toward the water. She hadn't even particularly cared whether it was a giant frog.
The possibility that there was something here they hadn't understood was enough. Nokomis came with her as always, the little blue jay flitting ahead before settling among the branches nearest the shore. Sheauga wandered more slowly through the grass, eventually finding a place near Nate where she could settle onto her haunches.
...so it waited until you weren't looking?
she murmured gently, her ears tipping forward
Sheauga's gaze traveled over the water before drifting toward the venisons former resting place. She didn't immediately think of teeth, instead she wondered how long it had been here. And that maybe...it was frightened of them.
If it's been hiding from everyone...
she began thoughtfully, voice softened as though speaking too loudly might somehow carry across the water,
maybe it doesn't want to hurt anyone,
Nate had called it wolf eating, admittedly.
Nokomis shifted somewhere overhead, drawing Sheauga's eyes briefly toward the flutter of blue between the leaves before they returned to the lake. A smile slowly touched her maw,
We should stop looking for it,
she lowered herself into the grass, forelegs stretching comfortably before her.
If it knows when you're watching, then maybe that's why you haven't seen it
her head tilted toward Nate.
We can just stay here awhile, and let it decide if it wants to show itself.
