The dark was a curious thing. It had always fascinated him. Perhaps it was the somber way the color drained from everything. Perhaps it was the mystery — the dancing illusions. Perhaps it was the trickery of the shadows.

His smile widened, paws dangling from the low hanging branch as he nested his chest against the bark. Two golden eyes blinked open, piercing the veil of misted shadow as he quietly gazed. He was nothing but the flash of teeth and golden eyes, both eerily laced with traces of magical blue.

Was he as fascinating as the night, he wondered?

Or was he as predictable as the day?

A sharp wuff interrupted his very important thoughts, his gaze peering downward toward the familiar wandering fireball. His smile became impossibly wide, a bit of blue drool catching at the edges of his lips that he idly picked up with his wandering tongue. Briar's tone was sharp, despite there being no words — as sharp as her name.

Calyx would slither, unwinding from his perch and gently lowering himself to the ground. The misted earth seemed to breathe around him. ¡Qué emocionante! What luck for me to be visited by Sister-Dear! His face did not change, but his eyes would dilate. She must want something. But from him?

Briar did nothing without reason.
