Great Woodlands, Autumn Event

Healer/Herbalist Skill Event: Prompt

The day is clear and bright. It seems quiet, and that is when you turn your eyes to the unusual patterns in the sky. The strange clouds seem to descend to the earth in a sudden, rainbow flash. In their wake, you notice some novel sorts of herbs and plants that are entirely unfamiliar to you. Some share similarities to other flora you may recognize, but others are completely undiscovered. You feel inspired to study them, wondering what sort of plants these are. Perhaps picking the right one will lead you to a prize ...

What will you do?

Shu's bones moved in strange shapes, and the distant fall of Tefnut's rain seemed to shift with the stark brilliance of a rainbow — no doubt a mark of heavenly action. Hotep stared for a time at the sky in awe, but did not question his arrival here. The gods had taken his spirit to new lands once before. And he had been Greatest of the Seers, in his old life. He felt only gratitude, excitement, to be called now into this vision as blooms followed the wake of divinity.

Golden eyes surveyed the many-coloured blessings. So many wonders! And yet, he knew his time here could not last forever. There was a puzzle in this. A question. Asked by the gods themselves! His mind raced with eager curiosity. What flower should he pick?

Striding through the plants, he struggled not to feel overwhelmed by their many aromas. Some were sweet, even cloying. Others sharp. Bright, or pale, dark, or vivid. They burnt his nose. Distracted his eye.

But in the end, there could be only once answer. A sacred blue lily, perfect in shape, divine in scent, more so than any he had ever seen. They brought joy, calm, even inspired visions. Purified specimens were an offering made daily to the temples in his life Before. So he would make such an offering again, here, with this blossom. All he had been given, he would return to the givers.

Iokav's rudimentary herb-pouch of hide was growing fuller by the minute. Filled to the brim with herbs and peculiar looking flowers he'd stumbled across in his travels. The fields here were teeming with life; never in his years on this earth had he witnessed such a vivid bloom.

It's with a scholar's wonder and insatiable curiosity he followed the strangest cloud-cover to find himself in the thickets of blooms. Flowers and herbs back home could not have rivaled these pickings. Many of the blooms were unknown to he; it's with a keen eye and practiced hand he collects them.

With a pallid and runny nose, he meandered through the field with his head buried within the blooms, the pouch slung loosely across his shoulders growing heavier by the second.

Euphemia too, was kept busy profiling the many herbs and flowers that sprouted in that spot, that very day. She had no way to harvest, being so very far from home, but she hadn’t the need. Her entire being was driven by the need to glimpse them, to lay her eye upon the many colored petals and leaves, to share the space of the insects that buzzed in between.

The maiden found herself entirely enveloped in a tangled pillow of wildflowers. Still, she experienced each plant carefully as their soft tendrils reached upwards to brush her cheeks, and lay right across the tip of her nose. One of the most amazing things was that many of the flora were specimens of varietals that she had only read about, in her many books she had consumed on the subject.

Why here, and why now?

There was not a thought in her mind that any of this was attached to any other of the mysterious happenings, and she questioned it nary a second longer. She only snuffled about at a mere snail’s pace, entirely intent on laying her awareness on every nook and cranny of this place, yet oblivious to the other individuals who pilfered about.

The sun was too warm. The flowers were too bright. The sky lit with odd rainbows that danced ever-closer, aiming themselves in her general direction. The barest hints of a scowl might be seen on the edges of her lips, if one were to look close enough. The witchy woman often avoided any situation that presented itself with such ... flaire.

It was a self-diagnosed allergy of sorts.

But for some reason, she pushed through the daylight, her dark form a dark blur against the patchwork of color. And there were others here, too. Some with their purses, and some with curiosity dancing behind their eyes. But it seems they all understood that this — these flowers, these clouds, presenting in this season — were unnatural.

And that was what drew Sreda's muzzle closer, her tufted ears pressed forward as she woefully sorted through the sickeningly sweet scents. She was looking for the diamond in the rough — the decay against the alluring backdrop of pleasures. She knew the Plague was here — it just had to be.

Drawn into the woodlands, oakwood eyes follow a most unusual phenomena in the sky. Clouds lowered themselves to the earth accompanied by iridescent, rainbow flashes. There is a sense of foreboding within Juniper's gut. Fantastic as the display was, did it have to do with the plagues that swept the land? Curiosity outweighed their caution in this moment, and to Juniper's delight, a bounty of unfamiliar plants bloomed where the clouded touched down.

Other intuitive wolves had beaten her here, sampling plants that caught their eye. There was still plenty to go around. Juniper found herself drawn to a variety of blooms. Vibrant, blue petals spread into a curved star-like shape. They reminded Juniper of Agapanthus, lily of the Nile. Yet these flowers did not branching off the same stem. Fascinating.

Juniper cast their gaze around the glade, simply marveling the splendor.

Great Woodlands, Autumn Event

Healer/Herbalist Skill Event

NO NEW PARTICIPANTS ARE ALLOWED IN THIS THREAD AT THIS TIME.

At the end of October, this thread will close!

There is no posting order, but be courteous to your other players so everyone can get their points!

Story — As you study the strange plants before you, there is one that stands out more than the rest. It is a leggy plant, tall, with no real notable floral scent. At the top of the strand are smooth, white floral bells that are tinted with light blue. The leaves of the plant, however, are what you notice … for the edges are dipped in midnight blue. It reminds you of Chelone Glabra — the white turtlehead … known for ridding the body of toxins. But this … it is blue.

Chelone Caeruleum … the blue turtlehead. As if on cue, you hear the voice, somewhere in your head and swimming through the mist. And that is all it says before the fog dissipates and the clouds retreat. You are left with nothing except a single bud of this unique, new plant. And you feel it is important for something. No, you don’t just feel. You know.

Outcome — You are all left with one root of this new plant, the Blue Turtlehead. It is used to cleanse parasites from the body … and you wonder if this has to do with the plague upon Mythris.

You are the only ones to have this strand of plant, and perhaps you can, together, figure out how to cultivate it and what it might be used for. You may acquire up to 10 points toward your healer OR herbalist skill — that is two points per post, for a five-post maximum reward. You may post more than this, of course, but 10 points is the max. You may allot these toward a Healer OR Herbalist Skill Badge or any offshoot of that class (doctor, holistic, etc).

At his flanks, carving through the field of flowers old and new, others join him in the exploration of such an odd phenomenon. Other healers such as himself, he surmised as his tired eyes watched them search for a heartbeat. Or perhaps strangers caught up in wanderlust.

For now, he kept to himself, practiced hands and teeth careful as they extract his findings to tuck them away into his pouch. Tedious to avoid any toxic flora, eager to collect the rest. He meanders further, further—

Until he finds it. A plant that tickles the corners of his mind, bringing the whispers of recognition. A beautiful flower with toothed leaves dipped in inky blue. Strangely, it has no smell. But he remembers having come across something similar, perhaps, during his time spent in the under-city of his home.

Confounded, he lifted his head from being buried within the field of blooms to examine it. It's...different than what he remembered. And for a moment, as his eyes narrow with scrutiny, he cannot for the life of him name it.

And then, a whisper caressed the backs of his mind. A voice unknown, unfamiliar, a little startling. With furrowed brows, he whispered to himself, parroting the name.

Chelone Glabra. He muttered it again, and again, while a sensation of eureka settled into his bones. A sense that he'd found something profound, important, though for what reason he couldn't possibly know.

But he remembers now, if only vaguely. He'd collected specimens similar when there'd been an outbreak of sickness in the undercity. He remembers steeping in it tea, curating tinctures to soothe those who'd fallen ill.

He is not a religious man. Studious, yes, but pious? He believed in science, in medicine. But this...this wasn't either. Not really. Not as his eyes cast upward to watch those strange clouds ink away, as if they'd never been there in the first place. Not as that whisper faded from his mind, and certainly not as this flower seemed to pulse with something...

Strange. This is all so strange.

His offering earned an answer.

Hotep's ears pricked forward as the voice — Osiris, as Phoenix had claimed? — spoke into the sesh's very being. Lapis-blue tint marked the gift godly, and he studied it in awe. In the language of the River, he spoke, This blessing from the West I will safeguard, Unnefer, and all of Satriya will know of your benevolence and generosity.

There were others here, too, a myriad of faces with strange pack-scents. In Common, a tongue he was having to practice more and more in this fractured world, he asked them, Have you all answered the call of he who speaks in our dreams? We must protect this gift. It may help mend what has been broken in this world.

But a single bloom wouldn't do much good in the long run. Lilies once grew by the thousands in sacred pools. How would they cultivate it?

Nothing could detract Euphemia from her task, except for the voice that entered her mind, the images that fill her vision, and the feels of duplicity that entered her being.

When it all left her empty once more, before her she found a root of the aforementioned blue turtlehead. It was small, nothing more than a nub, which was shocking when compared with the verdant wildflower field. Surrounded by such exotics, Euphemia suddenly felt at-risk, as if she held a great secret between her paws, and it was slowly eeking out between her toes. The maiden was well-enough-versed in farming to know that not every bulb would take. Who would know if the one she held would germinate?

What if one of her sisters or brothers died because she couldn’t make it take root?

Euphemia kept her face smooth, lifting her visage to look at the one who spoke. A dark male, about the same size as she, and distinctly not of the north. He asked the small group who gathered a simple question, but the silver woman was more overtaken with the realization of how many had gathered here, exactly how many souls held the knowledge of this holy gift. She smelled the air, and scented the cohesive vapors of their group on each one of them.

All, except for one.

Yes, Euphemia breathed, affirming what the unknown dark man had asserted. She didn’t know if he could hear her when she spoke so softly, so the tiny shewolf lifted her head and neck, and spoke from her chest. We must propagate what we have, and quickly. Was this obvious information? Certainly, everyone was thinking the same thing.

If you are in need, she offered, before she could stop herself. I offer Frostfrang Vale for its fecundity. Then her gold gaze lay right upon Iokav, the only one who didn’t smell of a pack, either strange or familiar.
