His morning was idle. Some might consider it lazy, but Heh … well, Heh used this idle time for observation. It was likely strange to most, to see a puppy move with such intentional slowness. Especially when compared with the activity and hostility of his siblings. But Heh did not mind being placed into a box all his own.

A gold-rimmed paw lingered idly in the sand, sliding through the grains and drawing nonsense lines and irregular shapes. His ears were pressed forward, dual toned eyes watching the way the grit moved away from his paw.

The ocean roared in the distance, the yawning of the tide gradually growing louder as the ocean swelled. The sun shone overhead, warming the dark fur of his back.

Eventually, Heh’s idle motions became more purposeful, and he would take both of his front paws and begin to dig. Sand sprayed, and he would descend for a little while until the sand became cool and damp.

And then, with a mighty heave, he would toss his tiny body into the hole and enjoy the coolness of the ocean water as it soaked into his skin.
