The boy wandered from the den, too far. He had come to realize this as the landscape grew less and less familiar. Val was convinced he was big enough, strong enough to leave the den when he wanted. So he did and often, and even as the world became stranger there was something in him, something stubborn and defiant that insisted he was still right. Besides if he got lost, it was mothers fault for not watching him properly. Father said it was always mothers fault.

The boys crimson and salmon eyes flickered skyward as the first raindrop landed upon his nose, he scrunched it looking down as it ran downward before his eyes drifted to the incoming clouds. With a crumble the boy pressed on, toddling on big clumsy paws as the earth; and himself grew soggier by the minute.

After more walking, and feet that were beginning to ache he plopped down on his rump and roared into the sky. ❝ UGH! Hello!?? ❞ his little voice would carry, brows furrowing into a scowl as he glared at nothing. ❝ MOTHER, you were supposed to be watching me!! ❞ he shouted again, puffing his little chest out ears pivoting back against his crown bitterly.

❝ speech ❞

She woke to the sky full of exploding pinks and oranges, reds and purples, colors that spread across the evening sky and threatened her. Blinking crimson and emerald optics the girl tipped her head to the sky from between her paws. Her stomach flat on the ground as she huffed a few times, taking in the dangerous scents of mists and forests she didn't know.

H.... Hello...? She squeaked as the female bit her lip and furrowed her eyes at the surrounding area that was unrecognizable.... And yet... What was recognizable?

Shuddering a little in her tiny body the small femme yipped a few times and hopped to her feet, trying to sound the alarm of a lost pup, hoping her cries were enough to summon the wolves from the depths and come save her from this surrounding darkness that loomed over head. Lifting her head she continued to bark and yip, prancing around the wooded area she'd woken up in.

Everything smelled different, foreign, new... It was sharp and crisp, it nearly burned her nostrils, and she snorted a sneeze as she shook her head from the effort. She didn't know who she was looking for, she didn't know who would come, but she was sure that whoever came would be the one to save her from the depths of the shadows that crept upon her.

She was so caught up in herself and her current problem that she didn't hear the voices of the other pup in her panic.

Alarm bells rang in her head as a youthful voice called out an irritated, albeit confused, greeting. Freya’s ears pressed forward, her breath caught in her throat as she quite literally leaned towards the sound. It was not a voice she knew, it was not one of her own children, thankfully. Though the relief was short lived, as she registered they were not hers, she began to wonder whose they were. To her knowledge, none of the other Saints had young pups.

Could a child have really roamed this far on their own? Had a Saint stolen them from their home? The woman felt sick as the latter was certainly a heavy possibility. Was… Was it Jaxxon? Had he stolen this young boy for some reason? No-No, the child sounded alone, Jaxxon wouldn’t have left such a vulnerable boy out in the open. He may have been a devil, but there was a heart buried within him, this much Freya knew for certain.

Green eyes widened as she noticed the gathering of gray clouds and heard the droplets begin to pour. Oh no. With a gentle urgency, the mother tucked Viola towards the depths of the den, towards her siblings. While it was spring, there was still a chill in the air during storms.

Silently, the healer began to make her way near the youthful calls, ears alert and eyes frantically scanning for a small child. Blue-gray fur gradually flattened as rain drenched her, though it did nothing to deter the worried Nightshade. Eventually, she spotted the boy, but simultaneously she heard another child, a girl. Freya’s head jerked side to side like a doe patrolling a meadow for the safety of her fawns. A boy and a girl. Children. So young and small. Alone in a storm. Why? How?

Hello? she called back through the falling rain, neck craning to lower her head to their eye level. Peeking beneath the low hanging foliage and around the trees as she neared the first child, she soon spotted the second. They were not too far apart, but they clearly seemed untied to each other. Was this truly just a coincidence? Come here, love, a soft call to the auburn girl as she took another step towards the boy. You too, dear, come to me. The rain is quite cold, come home, Freya had not said “my home”, simply home, as she didn’t know how long it would take to return them.

For now, this would be their home, as long as they needed.

Had they been born here, or were they stolen from their worlds just as she had been?

Bella was quietly tucked away in the darkest corners of the den, vying for a shadowed comfort that only the darkness could offer. Her nose was tucked into the plume of her tail, legs curled carefully around the other as her body sat positioned and ready to listen. She watched with a carefully curated gaze, half-lidded masts lingering along the darkened silhouette of her mother as she moved toward the sounds of the wind.

Voices had seemed to pepper the air, their garbled calls a disconjoined symphony between the booming and cracking of the sky. Bella could not decipher what exactly it was that her mother had heard, and although a part of her believed it to be nothing but the rain and the wind, she could not help but draw herself forward.

Quickly, as if she were an asp readying to strike, she leapt to her feet in an instant.

Bella chased the shadow of her mother, poking her head out with curious skepticism as the rain pellted the darkened world ahead. Who’s there, momma? She whispered through a hiss.
