Welcome to all, but hoping for a Morwenna <3

"You are Caan, the one who walks with rain."

Caan drifted through darkness. The world of dreams was an illusive one, but it would not be long before imagined worlds danced behind his eyelids. The dreams were the boy's only refuge from the horrid fracture that shattered his family. A gentle escape that was always there whenever he would close his eyes. And when he could not find his dreams? He still remained in the dark. It was a familiar place, for he had been born from it.

Sired by Sun Eater. Born to Star Eater.

He was a brand new star forged from their union, shiny and new. Only shortly after had he been ruined.

A broken star. A dim light all alone in the night sky. That is what the boy was now.

With his eyes closed to the world around him, once again did Caan fall to the earth. One that was not his own.

For the second time in his life, Caan opened his eyes for the first time. He was greeted by the towering forms of evergreens. Pines, firs, spruce, all stood mighty in the forest. Their boughs crossing in the fierce wind, the snow that decorated their branches falling to the forest floor in turn. The wind howled against the wooden fortress, only breeching the forest in low drafts snaking along the floor.

A shiver ran down the boy's spine. Lump lodging in his throat as he drew himself to his feet. His tail hung low between his hocks, his ears flattened. Whale-eyed, the boy drew his glacial gaze through the shadows.

Where was his mother?

morwenna was not the wind—
but she moved with it.
her breath steamed from dark nostrils, her flanks slicked with the frost of her ascent. it was not her paws that burned as they tore across the stone—but her heart, that heavy, tethered thing that would not stop until it found him. it had found her daughter. her fa’liya. tiny and screaming still with life.
but the boy.
caan.
her rain.
her son, the second breath she ever drew after the fall.
the forest split open beneath the thunder of her charge. snow burst like stars at her heels. scent. scent. her pace faltered just once when she caught it—faint, but true—and she threw herself across the frozen threshold of a half-buried clearing.
there he stood. small still. whole still. and alone.
caan, the name cracked from her throat, torn ragged by desperation, wrapped in aching joy. her voice shook, as if daring the trees to take him from her again.
and then she was upon him, great body dropping low into the frost as if to shield him with her very bones. she did not touch him—not yet—but her breath shuddered inches from his fur.
my son and now she reached, drawing him near. my rain. i’ve found you.

Snow is flattened underfoot, a crunching sound that the boy hears through the howling wind. His head snaps in the direction of the noise, a step taken back. He begins to crouch as the sound grows louder. The boy can see the spray of snow as its sent flying.

Then a familiar scent passes his nose. Sweet and familiar and one he had known for eternity.

His mother appears in a gap between the trees. A threshold in the small sanctum the clearing made, she stood in its door. The boy's eyes sting as they begin to well. Heat flushing behind his eyes, across his cheeks, and in his throat as he chokes out a wordless cry to his mother. A sound of recognition.

She leaves that doorway quickly, passing the threshold with no need for initiation. She is there and she is close and she is here for him—!

She hovers over him, and the boy pauses, uncertain as to why. He looks to her, his breath held tightly within his chest. Why hadn't she taken him in her arms?

And then she does.

She does. She does. She does. She does.

I've found you.

A slow sob parts his lips. Caan had a tendency to cry, hadn't he? Whines hitched in his throat as he throws himself deeper in mothers embrace. His nose finds the hollow of her throat and he buries himself there. When the loudest of his wails left him, the boy whispers into his mother's fur.

Where did you go, mom?

i had gotten sick, my love, came her voice, low and full of snowmelt, wrapping around him like a cloak. her muzzle curved down, burying itself into the soft crown of his head. she breathed him in, her boy, her rain, and all the pain of her absence tightened in her throat.
but now... her chest swelled, a breath that trembled with relief, ...now i am here. you've found me.
her limbs curled around him, protective and sure. morwenna kissed his temple, the press of her nose firm and steady. and i will never let you be lost again.

So sorry for the short response. Didn't want to hold back the thread.

Caan's forepaws wrap around his mother's shoulders. Cloaked in her embrace, he melted into her loving warmth. The vicious bite of the wind did not reach him here. The boy did not wish to let go.

Caan did not look up to his mother, fearing that parting from her just enough to lift his chin would allow her to be torn away from him again.

Do you promise? A child's plea, whispered in sincerity; not to a queen, but to his mother. For but a moment did he dare to lift his gaze, needing to see his mother's face.
