The world erupted with noise, and one by one, Lichen's siblings left the comfortable pile of cuddled bodies. One by one, they left until Lichen lay shivering on the mattress, their body chilled by the sudden loss of their siblings. No máthair, no vader, no siblings. Just Lichen. And Lichen didn't like that.

Lichen wasn't good at being alone, and that much was evident from the soft whine that escaped their lips. How could her family all just ... leave? And why was it so loud? A flurry of noise and smells wafted up the staircase, and all of the stimulation of everything new washed over their tiny little body. Dark ears would press back, squinted eyes peering toward the door of their room where — thankfully — Wendigo remained perched.

Lichen would sit up, rolling themselves off the bed before walking toward the door. Everything, all of the noise and smells, grew louder.

Gently, they would reach out their nose, pressing gently at the navy fur of Wendigo's shoulder as they joined him just outside the doorway.

Wendigo was silent, and so was Lichen, their eyes peering up toward him for a moment before they turned their attention toward the rest of the party. Lichen's eyes would widen, observing everything that they could ... taking everything in as they watched the way the bodies downstairs slurred and swayed. They heard everything — the intonation of the voices, of the swears, of the songs, and the smell of rotten fruit.
