Weather Updates

(by anarchypilled) With summer in the rearview mirror, all of Mythris can feel the cool breeze that whispers ‘Sayonara’ to the endless days of heat. Fall has come, and so with it, the valley of changing leaves. All across Mythris, your character will see a sea of changing colors: from red to orange to yellow to brown. Trees of various species shed their green leaves, filling pathways with the multicolored sight of autumn. Enjoy it!

Ghosts of the Past

(by spacepvp) Something appears to be creeping in the shadows…Have you noticed feeling watched? Overheard? Or spied on? Has the fur along your back risen with trepidation when you’ve found yourself alone in the closing hours of the night? Have you heard sounds you may’ve tried to dismiss as nothing more than the wind?

Well, you may be in luck!

Under normal circumstances, you might’ve been paranoid, but this fall season, it appears the land of Mythris is…celebrating?

During the times between Twilight and Dusk, characters of Mythris may be able to spot the misty apparitions of various animals frolicking about the land. They do not speak, but they seem to listen. They cannot be harmed, and they cannot harm you. But most curiously of them all, these misty apparitions seem to release a sensation of peace, tranquility, and serenity, as if they are trying to remind you that all will be alright.

Members can write about their own version of wispy apparitions that their characters may see through the autumn season. These ghost-like creatures cannot aid your character in-game, nor harm or give information, as they are silent, but characters can watch as they seem to go about their daily activities as if they were still alive today.

The Lost Breaths of Mythris

  There’s something weird, and it doesn’t look good!

With the land of Mythris once more restored to its basic equilibrium, it seems something else might’ve returned on the cusp of such redemption. Across Mythris, during the darkest, dimmest hours of the night, members may catch what appears to be eyes or a silhouette peering down at them; they may catch a disfigured leg or a mutated horn glistening beneath the moonlight. What are these creatures, you might ask?

Cryptids.

What you might see may never be confirmed; what you might try to share with others may be met with a completely different story in its entirety; but something is for sure: souls across Mythris are seeing something.

It is time to extend the folklore and oral history of Mythris! For the Autumn Season, your characters may find, see, or spot various cryptid-like creatures throughout the land. These cryptids cannot change the landscape and will avoid contact with worldly beasts—they will flee if approached, but that does not mean you cannot observe them!



Please, no experiments on these foreign creatures; they cannot be trapped nor contained (despite your best efforts).

If you see one, please describe it in this thread below! We would love for Vivarium to have its own cryptozoology compendium, filled with all the cool and interesting ideas you guys come up with! Who knows, maybe it will start its own shared oral history across the land!

Happy Fall, guys! As always, these events are meant to be fun, so go forth and be free! There may even be a little special icon at the end of our fall adventures! These events will run until November 30th, but keep your eyes peeled for some Halloween-y fun between October 24th and 31st!

Cryptid Name: Vesperwing
Cryptid Description: Small butterfly like creatures with translucent wings that have an ethereal blue/white glow. Their bodies are insubstantial as if made from moonlight and motes of light drift from their wings before disappearing. They are often seen in clusters of dozens.
Cryptid Location: Northern Alpines / Frostfang veil

Anything else: They seem aware of those observing them but always retreat when someone draws too close, seeming to beckon an individual deeper into the woods before disappearing entirely.

Cryptid Name: Nightcaller
Cryptid Description: A large creature with stripes limbs, an ape like face and a long scaled tail. Dark mist often clings to its body making it hard to see, and it is usually heard before it seen. Known for its eerie birdlike cry.

Anything else: It's not known if it is fortunate or unfortunate to see one and beliefs often conflict whether it is an omen or a blessing.

Cryptid Name: Bonerattler
Cryptid Description: Very tall canine-like creature with stilt legs that move awkwardly like a spider, where paws also cannot be seen. Solid black in color, savor where exposed bone is shown: its canine skull, its spine which is spiked, and upper portion of ribs, exposing its beating heart. In place of ears are pointed bones curved inward, resembling horns. From its empty eye sockets seeps out a pale blue mist. It will rattle its teeth to make a sharp clicking noise when it feels threatened.

Anything else: Can be spotted in any location around Mythris. If you attempt to trap it, it will rush straight at you before vaporizing into mist seconds before impact.

Cryptid Name: The Walosi Frog*
Cryptid Description: Splotched, green slimy skin. Grabby arms. Mouth of considerable volume. Froglike in shape... presumably...
Cryptid Location: Lake's Halo
Cryptid Thread: Bad(?) Company
Anything else: It is shy but voracious, and spends most of its life hiding under the water. Only glimpses have been captured. Said to be heard more often than seen, an especially loud frog ribbit might actually be... this creature...
So far it's never consumed a wolf, but we're pretty sure it could swallow one whole if it wanted.
