On The Vivarium Plant Discovery is conducted through In Character events. Characters can discover plants and herbs in their posts and submit them for discovery. With each successful discovery, the Vivarium staff will update the Plant Guide in the Guidebook with the information of the plant/herb. For matters of toxicity, we adhere to the reactions a human would have to plants rather than canines, since information is more readily available on human reactions.

To discover the herb/plant, there are a few criteria the thread must meet:

  • The thread must have clear posts finding and observing the plant
  • The thread must have the character describing the plant and what it looks like, alongside their uses [if medicinal]
  • The thread cannot just be a singular post of the character discovering the plant. It must be IC-fuelled

Once the plant has been submitted for discovery, a member of staff dedicated to research will confirm the information provided and if it is all accurate, the plant will be submitted to the Plant Guide.  Your Discovery will be marked with a reply stating, "Discovered! Added to Plant Guide" status. If there any issues with your discovery, a member of staff will post a reply with "Pending! Reaching out."

Plant Discovery: Lamb's Tongue

Plantago lanceolata

Plant Name
Lamb's Tongue

Scientific Name
Plantago lanceolata

Brief Summary
Also known as Ribwort Plantain or Buckhorn, it's a small flower characterised by groups of long stems ended with oval brown head with smaller white flowers dotting the lower section. The leaves are closer to the ground, oval with lenght-wise ribbing. Lamb's Tongue prefers a wide variety of enviroment, from dry to more humid places, and is generally hardy, though prefers more windy, open and sparse places. Young leaves can be eaten safely and leaves as whole have a medicinal use, externally for treating wounds for infections, soothing skin irritations such as insect bites and internally to help aid against respiratory infections. Likely not the strongest remedy but popular thanks to it's widespread habitat.
