Playable Species

All species played are non-native to Mythris; it seems every creature, both wolf and beast alike, have been transported here in one way or another.

Beast Limitations

While the site mainly focuses on canines, specifically wolves, we do allow all currently living species of animals — these are referred to as “beasts”.

A character is considered a beast if they fall below 50% wolf. Keep in mind that all animals on Vivarium follow realistic standards and physical abilities, despite looking a bit unnatural as far as colours and markings go, it is expected to stay relatively within their species' quirks. A tiger would naturally have stripes and a leopard would have spots.

Physical Limitations

Beasts are expected to fit within the same parameters of their standard physical prowess, in regards to their species, the same as wolves. For example lions cannot hunt in the snow and ice, a house cat would not keep pace with a bear, and a fox cannot fight a wolf on an equal playing field. Members are expected to play each situation appropriate to the species they are using.

Naturally, some species hold an advantage, but players cannot expect others to unwillingly roleplay with them due to the difference in strength and skill depending on the species. Please, respect when a smaller beast character does not want to interact with a lion character, or a pack dealing with an aggressive bear. Ask the other member if it's alright!

Habitat Limitations

Beasts are expected to generally stay in the area of their natural habitat, for the majority of the time. It’s important to do research and understand what places are and are not a viable biome. We allow freedom to roam, however there will be a notification from staff if Beasts stay too long in a landscape that they cannot adapt to. Lingering in a zone they cannot handle can lead to long lasting effects or even death.

Please note that staff will not be able to police every beast 24/7, so there is a chance you will be approached by the team in regards to a past action. We just ask that you understand the logistics to the beast you are playing, and if you’re unsure, it’s better to ask than to deal with accidental IC consequences!

This is also applies to NPC Companions!

For example a snowy owl cannot handle a southern summer and a vulture cannot handle a northern winter.

Beasts that are primarily from warmer zones may only travel as far as Westmoor Wakes during the autumn and winter. During the warmer seasons of spring and summer, they may have free range of every main area other than the Northern Alpines.

Example: Lion, Cheetah, Lizard, Camel, Giraffe

Beasts that are primarily from colder climates may only travel as far as the Great Woodlands during the spring and summer. During the colder seasons of autumn and winter, they may have free range of every main area other than the Primal Savannah.

Example: Polar Bear, Penguin, Arctic Fox, Caribou, Reindeer

Travel Limitations

Beasts that are at least a year old and are nearly the size of a wolf or larger, are able to travel up to one square a day. This takes general breaks, sleeping, and eating into account. While you do not have to be exact, we ask that you use a rough estimate of a squares-to-days ratio to avoid blipping around in an irrational amount of time.

For beasts that are smaller like hares, raccoons, and house cats, or are less than a year old, can only travel half as far. This means it will take up to two days to travel a single square. A way to work around this rule is to travel with larger animals that would be willing to offer rides or carrying. If you do not have a larger traveling companion, it may take some time to reach your destination.
