Markings

Vivarium allows all species of animals to use the markings found on other creatures, this includes but is not limited to: piebald, stripes, leopard spots, merle, chimerism, brindle, etc.
However, if you have a pattern that is not natural for your character, we require the pattern to be faded to a muted opacity. (ie. tiger stripes on a wolf)

We do not allow precise shapes like skelletal patterns, words, cobwebs, snowflakes, 5-point stars, etc. Perfect shapes and human-made objects cannot be found as markings.

  • Markings can only be shapes that are actual shapes. This includes: stars, diamonds, hearts, crescents, circles, and triangles
  • Markings cannot be anything that can be classified as similar to a “cutie mark”, such as smiley faces, bats, lightning bolts, butterflies, or anything of the like.
  • Markings can be small if only on areas with short fur: face, ears, legs, crown.
  • Markings can exist on longer fur sections as long as the marking is larger in size, and won’t be sharp nor maintain a perfect shape.
  • A characters face may only have ONE shape marking on it, maximum
  • A character’s body may only have TWO shape markings on it maximum
We Require Notes For:
  • Artistic interpretations of overly long fur such as on the cheeks, tails, 'manes', or bangs.
  • Slowly progressing Piebald patterns that can gradually become whiter.

Colors

In Vivarium, we allow a large array of colors ranging from the natural browns, blacks, grays, and whites but also allow branches of more exotic colors like blue-gray, peach, purple-roan, yellow, and russet red.

Purple Roan – Grey
Blue – Grey
Russet – Reds
Orange – Ginger
Pink
Blonde – "Gold"
Blonde – "Green"
While we allow these colors, we do have some limitations and rules. Below, you will find some examples of our allowed shades when it comes to these less-realistic palettes. We do not allow shades that are too saturated and jarring.

Please, keep in mind that while you may be using accepted colors, the way they are paired and displayed also impacts whether or not they are accepted!

Using multiple, constraining colors like blue-gray, peach, and yellow can make some of those look too saturated or too high contrast to pass. We do offer a lot of creative freedom, but still try to keep it as least “sparkle dog” as we can.

Bright colors beside one another or a saturated color beside dull and/or monotone colors can look too high contrast. You can fix this by desaturating the color(s), using other colors to help fade between them, or altering the color palette.
