Setting

The Vivarium is home to the continent known as Mythris. No one is quite positive where this unknown, mystical world exists. It can be described as an intrusive fantasy setting, offering a nearly dreamscape-type atmosphere. While the characters here are bound by the laws of mortality, the land itself is weaved with peculiar anomalies and loose magic. The inhabitants cannot specifically use magic, but they may encounter instances where nature toys with the world and those who dwell within it - such as reincarnation, the sudden emergence of spooky caves, or pink trees flowering in the winter.

'Magic' is always used by staff discretion, and it is urged to ask before assuming any control or use of it.

The First Life

Characters cannot be native to Mythris, unless birthed by one of Vivarium’s breeding methods. Canines, and beasts alike, are all taken from their own universe and placed into this strange world. It has been generally deemed that most sentient life simply 'appeared' one day, into a land that was oddly devoid of fauna. Remnants of human life can be found, but their existence is long since passed. It’s almost as if the life that once occupied Mythris had been summoned elsewhere, and was replaced by unsuspecting creatures.

While the population steadily increases, no one has been able to find a way to leave this world. It appears once you wake here, there’s no returning. This also applies to characters who go inactive or are deceased, they cannot blip into another world and come back. Once you enter Vivarium, there’s no escaping it.

Arrival

Gradually, even more wolves and beasts find themselves arriving unexpectedly. To enter the world of Vivarium, your character must have their “awakening”. This refers to the way your character arrives in Mythris, there is no right or wrong way for this to happen! Here are a few suggestions on how to Awaken.

  • Characters can quite literally wake up from sleeping, as a means of arrival.
  • Characters can simply 'walk in,' finding their previous path gone.
  • Characters can fall from the sky or emerge from the ground.
  • Characters can wash up from the ocean.
  • Majority of entrances are permitted, but ask a staff member if you are unsure.

Traveling

In Mythris, territories and areas on the map are larger than they appear. Roughly, it can take an average wolf a day to cross one square. This grid-map should help in thinking of travel times!

For smaller beasts and other beasts, travel times may be longer or shorter depending on the species.
